6637 filter question

When you guys are saying the 6637 air intake mod, do you mean just replacing that filter with the stock one with no mods needed? I had a K & N filter with my last gasoline truck that worked pretty good, but I don't here much about the K & N's with the diesel engines. Are they no good for the 7.3,

Not so much the filter themselves as the OEM filter box is subject to let dust bypass the filter element. The 6637 is simple. You have to remove the top part of you filter box and depending on you truck model, may have to add a short piece of tubing. Look in my sig at the 7point3 link and you should find all you need to know.

To use this filter get a new battery tray from ford i pay 55 plus tax. Remove all your bat t stuff put new tray in it looks better this way. Then you need 4inchs of 4 inch exhaust and one 4inch band clamps. Know you can hear it moan with happiness !!!

I did not replace the battery tray. Once the top piece is removed the 6637 should fit fine.

And depending on your year model you may not need the additional 4" pipe. In my 2000 it inserted perfectly into the intake tube and I was able to use the stock clamp to tighten onto the neck of the filter. Beeen running this way for about 6 months.

The removing of all of the plastic looks better to me and opens the area up. Not using the pipe is a easy way to do it and not spend a big buck. I have never seen bu like your idea.

Ohhh i see - it probably looks nice and clean. Pics!!!!

btw some people use a 4" piece of 4"exhaust and put about half in the filter and half in the intake tube - this helps keep it in place, although most dont have problems this is a preventative measure. I will be doing this per f250 (pete) - Seems to be the safer bet

The extra 4" diameter pipe is to remove the restrictions in the intake whenn you do the CCV mod that some do. You can do a serch and find plenty of info. on that too.

Here is a pic of my setup (filter covered by Pete's custom cover)

I purchased some exhaust pipe at Napa....they cut it for me and I got a 3 inch piece and 4 inch piece. I used the 4 inch piese...cost about $10.

Here's what mine looks like now, and before I took off the battery cover. I decided I like the way it looks without the cheesy cover on the batteries. All I did was remove the air filter top & bottom, then eventually took the top off the battery.

With battery cover:

Without battery cover (I/C pipe foil was already removed in this pic also):
