i am thinking about the 6637 filter mod on my 00 7.3. what is all included in the kit and do you do away with your entire air box? cant seem to find any pictures of the kit. is this as good as the s&b kit as it is quite alot more than the 6637 kit. thanks
yes you do away with the entire air box. and i don't know what kit you are looking at but usually all you need is the filter and a piece of 4" pipe about 6" long, and a few t-bolt clamps. some kits come with the pipe and clamps. you cut out the air box. you have to do this because the air box and battery tray are one piece. but after you do that you use the original hose that hooked to the old air box. slide the piece of 4" pipe into that hose. then slide the filter on the Piece of pipe.
edit: i found a link to clays instructions for his kit from RRD here it is
Depends on the year of truck... The early 99s require a longer pipe with a 120 degree bend. For the later trucks, you just need to take the top off the air box, then remove the two bolts by the battery, then the two down in the bottom. Pull the box out, pulling the AIT sensor and tie-wrapping it to a brake line next to where the 6637 will sit. You can just unplug the restriction sensor (if yours has a plug) and chunk it. It's next to worthless anyway.
The thing about the 6637 is it's not really a kit. It's just a filter that some smart fellows figured out would provide the proper filtration and fit our trucks with a little DIY modification. The filter was never designed specifically for the 7.3, but instead adapted as a poor mans cold air intake upgrade. The S&B is a great system. The 6637 is just cheaper.
Clay sells a kit for everything. Here's the lowering kit I just bought from him.
I'm still not sure it makes it a kit.
OK, so Joe's right, Clay does sell a kit. What I meant was the 6637 isn't a custom designed filter like S&B, AFE, etc. It's just a filter that some smart 7.3 guys figured out would work well. Clay just figured out how to sell them at a good price.

Clay figured out how to make it convenient for a good price.
Btw, a couple guys I worked with had kits like that. Terrible ride quality. They never kept them installed for long.
Amsoil shows a AIS mod for $300 which is high.... Anyone here have that upgrade... its not for any moded trucks though.... But I was looking at that for a upgrade for my OEM filter replacement.
Not sure if you have an early 99 or not, if so look here for my DIY on doing it. I realize the prices are a bit high, but I was determined to make it that night so I paid a premium. If you look around you can get them all way cheaper.
