When it's -15f and you're working on construction equipment you leave the truck running.

Basically work 20-30 minutes, jump in truck to warm up, work 20=30 minutes hop in the truck and warm up.

I always heard the scares about wetstacking etc, and maybe I experienced that to an extent as after idling for several hours and driving off the engine ran like butt for a mile or 2 as it cleared out.

I always meant to install upfitters for the high idle mod, but my truck never had it.

try spraying both the end on the truck and the extension cord with wd-40 if it still does it you probably need new cord ends. you can just put a new end on the old cord.

I would try another extension cord before hacking the ends of the heater cord..

Also try replacing the GFI outlet.. They can go bad also

Cheaper to replace those before the heater cord

Thanks for the help on this issue

After buying a 2006 F250 super duty with a 6.0 I was a little clueless about a lot of this stuff since it is my first diesel. I had the same problem. Got cold on me a couple times recently and had to jump start. I went on ebay and bought a cord for about $25. I plug it in on a timer so the heater turns on about 3 hours before i leave in the morning. It turns these cold Illinois winter temps to where the truck feels like it is starting in 60 degree weather. Thanks for all the information on this topic guys !!!

Overheating and no interior heat in cold weather...

I have an 03 6.0 that I have been having an issue with when cold out. I live in Colorado and it gets well under 0 here it has not got that cold lately but my truck has been overheating on cold mornings as well as my interior heat not working... I just put a new block heater in it and trying it out tonight plus I got the anti gel stuff in it as of tonight... anyone got any ideas why my truck is doing that? Seems that it helps pouring hot water in my coolant resivour... but interior heat still won't work after stopping the overheating problem... any help would be appreciated!

Are you using any antifreeze in the coolant? It should have enough to be safe for -25 or 30 F

Yeah I use a 50/50 mix but I do know I have a tiny slow leak somewhere have no been able to find it yet but when it overheats it blows all it's fluid out then I gotta refill it with hot water and antifreeze before it will cool down and run normal... I don't get why my interior heat quits on me sometimes makes no sense to me...

I'm going to guess bad water pump. The impeller can slip intermittently. No circulation = no heater. Sudden overheating shortly after startup sounds like pump again

The ford cord had a join plug in the middle like that i think . Trace it back and see where it goes.

That was the breakaway in case someone drove off with the extension cord still attached.

I have a 2005 F-250 6.0 and im wondering, upon startup only on cold mornings, does anyone else have a problem blowing white smoke? This only happens the first time I startup every morning and only if its rather cold outside (40 and below).

The same smoke every internal combustion engine does when it's frickin' cold out?
