Zmann, thought of ebay, but didn't know if the experts here knew of "the" vendor to order from. Talked to the Ford dealer truck dept here and for $137, you to can have a heater cord. And for $47 you can have it installed. Yipee. NOT! Thanks.
lol! I went to the dealer but install wasn't bad .. about 20 min I did a custom plug receptical in the air dam ,, ebay has tons for 20$ but they arent OEM ford like this is
Need help finding web site to buy the aforementioned eng heater cord. Been doing this trying to find web site. Could one of you great Ford people please place your recommended site here for all us neanderthals to see. Thanks and think of me when I start busting knuckles threading the cord.
hey hawkeye i found the heater cords on e-bay for 15.95 try there.
Great site you have here. You saved me $$$$.I have a 2003 excursion in Canada was trying to find out if my truck had a block heater.......and I do thanks to you guys for the info
I have some more info on the cord. I bought one from ebay and installed it (although I wish I would have bought the dealer one). The one off ebay is just the cord. There is no conduit or anything. I works fine but I will be changing it out within the year. I guess I could have put the ebay cord in conduit, but it was cooold outside and I was just wanting to get it working. Also one more thing, after plugging in if I listen above the passenger wheel I can hear the heater start working. I always listen to hear the noise just to make sure it is on. I also leave mine plugged in all night. I don't like to be cold so my baby (my truck) probably likes to be warm also.
a 6.0 with 5w40 synthetic oil and a good fuel conditioner and good batteries will start at -20 farenheit no problems. my 03 with 164,000 does it all the time.
I think the magnetic oil heater would be a great addition. I like that idea, I will do that. Did you get a good deal on it. Where at? And if you listen just as you plug it in it will sound like air hissing (or some noise I can't describe accurately) above the passenger wheel. As for the -20 starting.....I don't even shut mine off when that cold, unless I am home or can plug it in. So I have never even tried it.
I bought the glue on pan heater from ebay ,, Katz brand ,, like 150 watt..30 $ I don't like the fact you hear a hissing with the block heater ,, it may be the source of your earlier plug demise
do you have 5w40 syn oil in the vehicle?very importent for cold starting.have you checked your batteries with a load tester seperatley?they have to supply good voltage to the ficm.and last but not least, a decent fuel additive for anti gelling and lubricity.
You must have a prob with you heater then. I had no issue with mine, I just got the truck and it never had a cord on it. Maybe the subs in the back have impaired you hearing a bit lol. I am sure yours makes the noise, it is very faint. And Sandman, I have no desire to even try to start it at that temp, but my truck is tip top shape so I bet it would, but I rely on my truck and do not want to test it. My truck runs for an average of 18 hours a day so If it is that cold then normally I am trying to get out of there to where it is warmer. That is a nice peice of mind knowing that yours will start at that temp though. I run the motorcraft 1540. I change the oil normally about once a week and the ford oil is at wallyworld. Is the 5w30 syn at walmart? Is the temp rating in the same range as the 15w40? I ran amsoil syn for a while in the old dually, and it was ok but the availability is an issue for me, I am always traveling.
wal-mart has the shell rotella 5w40@ 19.50 a gal.auto zone@19.90.it's recommended to use it year round as it still is a 40w when it's hot.easier starting gets to all the parts quicker and lasts 7500 miles no problem.
Hey Guys, I know this is an old thread but I wanted to thank everyone for this thread. I just found my block heater with cord tucked behind the bumper and I have just plugged it in to start warming my 2003 SD truck up. I can hear it making the noise described earlier in the thread so I know that it is actually working. I believe that it has never been used due to the way it was tied up and I'm pleased that I actually have this feature as it is noisy as hell when it's cold but a real great running truck when it's warmed up.
