Not all 6.0l came with cords, but all came with the block heater. You may need to purchase a cord for it.

NO ELEMENT IN MY TRUCK

I think ive proved the theory wrong that all 6.0's come with heater element installed. I was under the truck for an hour today with my mechanic up on a lift and we see three freeze plugs above and near the starter but no element......

Would it matter that my truck came from the south?

Or the truck had work done and pulled the heater element out and replaced with freeze plug.

The block heater is a part of the block casting. It's a thread in part. Yours does have it. Passenger side above the starter at the rear of the engine.

Now just need a cord, and I suggest a timer for it. 3 hours is long enough for getting the coolant up to a decent temp. If you don't mind a few extra dollars for electric, plugging in all night is okay. All night will get the coolant to around 120*f.

Set your heat system to defrost/hot. The heat will rise up to the wind shield.

Enjoy the winter!

That's good.. Now you need to go to an International dealer and buy the cord..

I think it was $24.00 when I bought mine while Ford wanted $80 for the same part..

The Ford part comes in a harness with the proper mounting points..

I just tie wrapped mine in place.. Been 10 years without issues

Just found this thread as I picked up an '05 Excursion with a 6.0. Couldn't see a plug up front and thought maybe it didn't have one. Thanks to this thread I found it. But here's a question: the green wire at the connector is broken off. So clean, it looks like it might have been cut.
Am I correct that it's just a ground and the heater should work anyway? If not, I need to put a new plug on, ASAP.
Thanks !

Not sure what you mean by the green wire at the connector.. I believe they are all together in a one cable that is Black

If you mean the round pin on the electrical connector that you plug into the outlet then yes that is a ground and it should work just fine..

Previous owner probably had an extension cord without the three prong plug and cut it off

A picture would help verify what you are describing

Sorry, didn't get a pic while it was still light out. Let me see if I can describe it. The AC plug, which was hidden in the bumper and zip tied to another wire, has a three conductor flat wire going into it at the back of the plug, as opposed to a round cable like a normal electrical cord. One of the wires, which I can see had a green insulation under the black, is broken or cut off where it enters the plug.

I'm wondering if I need that. If it would have gone to the ground prong on the plug, I suspect not. If it's one of the "hot" wires, then I'm worried the heater won't function, and that I might have to cut the plug off and wire a new one on.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for that plug? Maybe one that shows what color wires go where on the AC plug?
Or is there another way to test it?

Thanks!

Here is a youtube video of a guy testing and replacing the plug

If you put a meter across the plug it should be a resistance of around 8-30 ohms going through the heating element

Skip ahead to around 12.5 minutes

Cool. So here:

Ugh. Forum doesn't recognize the time codes. This is at 16:47.

you can see the flat cord and the plug. The wire on mine that's cut or broken off is the green one, which is passenger side.
And finally, here:

At about 27:50,

he says what I need to check. So, I will give that a test, and I'll know if I need to get another plug.
