I think ive proved the theory wrong that all 6.0's come with heater element installed. I was under the truck for an hour today with my mechanic up on a lift and we see three freeze plugs above and near the starter but no element......
Would it matter that my truck came from the south?
The block heater is a part of the block casting. It's a thread in part. Yours does have it. Passenger side above the starter at the rear of the engine.
I found it...i should have never second guessed the amazing smart members of this forum....it was there all the time...i just needed a brighter light! Thanks all
Now just need a cord, and I suggest a timer for it. 3 hours is long enough for getting the coolant up to a decent temp. If you don't mind a few extra dollars for electric, plugging in all night is okay. All night will get the coolant to around 120*f.
Set your heat system to defrost/hot. The heat will rise up to the wind shield.

That's good.. Now you need to go to an International dealer and buy the cord..
I think it was $24.00 when I bought mine while Ford wanted $80 for the same part..
The Ford part comes in a harness with the proper mounting points..
I just tie wrapped mine in place.. Been 10 years without issues
Just found this thread as I picked up an '05 Excursion with a 6.0. Couldn't see a plug up front and thought maybe it didn't have one. Thanks to this thread I found it. But here's a question: the green wire at the connector is broken off. So clean, it looks like it might have been cut.
Am I correct that it's just a ground and the heater should work anyway? If not, I need to put a new plug on, ASAP.
Thanks !
Sorry, didn't get a pic while it was still light out. Let me see if I can describe it. The AC plug, which was hidden in the bumper and zip tied to another wire, has a three conductor flat wire going into it at the back of the plug, as opposed to a round cable like a normal electrical cord. One of the wires, which I can see had a green insulation under the black, is broken or cut off where it enters the plug.
I'm wondering if I need that. If it would have gone to the ground prong on the plug, I suspect not. If it's one of the "hot" wires, then I'm worried the heater won't function, and that I might have to cut the plug off and wire a new one on.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for that plug? Maybe one that shows what color wires go where on the AC plug?
Or is there another way to test it?
