I was watching Driving television this morning and they reported that Ford had drop to 4th in market share behind GM 1st, Toyota 2nd and Honda 3rd. In fine print on the screen was the words " not including light trucks " Why even say something like that, light trucks are a Hugh market and Fords best seller. I wonder the difference light trucks would have made if they were included in the poll!!!
Ford has slowly been dropping, which is due to the fact they just arent keeping up with the jones's.
Give em time, they might creep back up there.
Besides to me it really doesnt matter much how they are doing in sales. I, like most guys in here, are mainly into the older trucks, and will most likely never contribute to the brand new sales!
There are a number of variables in rating vehicle sales, depends on how you want to stack the deck.
Corey is right, Ford needs to be profitable no matter the rank.
I hear ya prep, the last full size new truck I'd consider buying would be an 02 or 03 Ford, maybe even up too an 02 Dodge, only truck newer than that I would consider would be a Ranger.
i'd have a new one if i could afford it. i think its a cut throat market out there right now, everyone's crapping on the other guy in attempts to take the market. the foreign automakers are the only ones winning, no idea why...consumer reports sure don't boast up the nissans and the toyotas are too new to see how they fare...
regardless if they are dead last in sales, i'll still be true blue!!
The stats can be manipulated to say whatever you want. I took a Statistics class in post secondary studies and its very easy to just 'tweak' a few thngs to make them say what you want! Inclusions/exclusions/groupings, etc --> just like mentioned by leaving out truck sales.
FORD, for some reason, is struggling. The imports are kicking *** in the car end and the writing is on the wall for the truck segment too. I am not sure if the high fuel prices will steer the imports away from the segment but I dont think so. The numbers as far as cost of ownership for the imports look good as the resale for the imports seems to be higher.
I dont think Dodge or GM will fare any better vs the import trucks either. I have no clue as to why but owner satisfaction is higher with import cars (mileage? reliability?) and this will spill over to trucks as well. The next round of emissions will spell more problems for the domestics as they seem to lag behind. The imports have been ahead as their fuel prices and emissions standards have needed to be addressed long before North America ever considered it.
The stats can be manipulated to say whatever you want.
i totally agree. i'll almost bet that the manufacturers that get highest ratings also buy the largest advertising sector... i know i'll get shot for that, but its my opinion and i'm sticking to it!!

BINGO!
Right you are. GM spends the most for ads, next: Toyota.
And if some publication flames one of those vehicles, bye bye advertising dollars.
Case in point: Last year, in the Highway One section of the LA Times, the reviews for the Pontiac G6 were not flattering, in fact the reviewer stopped just short of calling it a POS.
Result: GM pulled all its corporate ads from the paper for 3 months.
Besides all the auto related magazines, most of the so-called ratings groups like J. D. Power and Edmunds take advertising dollars from automakers, so how subjective will they be?
Not very.
CR, while claiming not to take a dime from anyone, just loves Honda & Toyota. These two piles, in CR's eyes can do...almost no wrong.
CR sez they never recommend a brand new vehicle when it first comes on the market.
Uh huh...damn near every Honda and Toyota is recommended from the get go. Meanwhile, everyone else gets the "too new to rate" BS.

Its too bad that a person cant get an accurate rating of a vehicle these days.
I was browsing around last night to different forums, and found a chevy diesel one, so I went and checked it out. Its almost identical to this one, guys just love their trucks so much, they dont see the problems the chevs have, and what ford or dodge has better.
Toyota and Honda also have a long time good rep from years ago, I believe that alot of the hype about them is still due to that.
Someone needs to be paid to fairly rate vehicles!
Have you guys noticed that Ford still uses there Built Ford Tough slogan whereas GM like a rock is no more. Ill say this Ford though there marketing on there trucks is second to none. I was in at both a Chevy an Ford dealer one day an was looking at there brochires for there pickups. Theres no question Ford wins hands down on there literature. It really makes you want to buiy a Ford truck whereas Chevies says yah here it is take it or leave it.. Another I noticed it seems like Ford never wins to many contests in these magazine trials comparing pickups probably because off the advertising dolars spent I would guess. I always said Ford trucks sell themselves everything else is second.
