i can't speak for anything other than my experiences and opinions. personally, i've heard a lot of stuff, but as experience goes, my mother has 2 chebby trucks, a 00 and a 04. the 00 was a good truck, never had a hitch with it. the 04 was a turd. multiple steering and front end problems and the mileage wasn't near what the 00 was in basically the same truck. never seen the color of a truck affect mileage yet...
My fords have been rock solid trucks so far and i'm convinced that they are the truck for me!!
I work in the oilpatch in southeast sask and see lots of different kinds out there. I myself have used fords from 150's to 250's, and they seem to hold up good for me. My last one was an 06 250 with the 6.0L and I put on about 8,000 kms a month and had to replace the steering stabilizer shock a few times - not too bad. The 6.0 litres have been good to me so far, but out of Estevan there are some crew trucks with them and they have lots of injector, turbo and sensor trouble - however these trucks idle all day long and never shut off. I have seen toyotas out here and they do give trouble too - like front ends too light for the patch, busted shocks, trans trouble, gravel chewing up wiring harnesses, 4x4 hiccups, etc.

i love you...i really love you its about time someone tells it like it is on that jap crap.
Ive seen some Toyotas making their way out on the patch up here in northern alberta Silver bullet. I havent heard much about them, and ya dont see them ALL over.
Toyotas are more grocery getters, not oil patch trucks!
Hell for the patch why buy a toyota over a PSD, Duramax, or Cummins though?!?!
If you want a something that is going to go every day - and HAS to go - buy something tough that will stand up, like a 3/4 ton or one ton. If you buy cheap make sure you have an extra truck you can use while the other is in the shop! I have seen lots of good things with the Cummins and Dodge trucks too.
lol...the C word don't bother me as much as the D word. after all...Ford did own a large part of cummins at one point. would have been smart to have kept the controling share!!

Ford owned like 15% controlling shares in Cummins. That was in the early 90's.
what a gold mine to keep. although what i hear about the latest 6.7's isn't much if any better than the rest of them. blame the new emission standards.
Yeah the new emmisons suck. Just wait till the other companies get into that 2010 crap. I think cummins is trying to jump the gun and get the problems out early. Who knows though, they are just like any company and could have made a poor engine too.
Cummins have built some pretty junky engines in the past!! They do build a very good engine, but they all give trouble sometime.
A friend of mine works for a diesel shop and he told me with all the new emissions controls on all the new diesel trucks it's better of the stay with the older ones.
It`s weird how the new emissions controls reducing fuel economy come in at the same time when the world price and consumption of oil is at an all time high. This seems like the perfect way to kill the sale of work trucks.
