I have always wondered why ford doesnt win alot of those contests in magazines too.
Makes a guy wonder if they are a little less superior, or if it has something to do with advertising.
I guess a guy could look for a few different articles and see what a few different magazines say.
I think a magazine should hire a very busy contractor and give him a new truck from the different manufacturer every 6 months. All similarly equiped with the biggest V8's offered and loaded up inside. Let the contractor beat the living hell out of these trucks whether it's towing trailers or hauling in the bed and lets see who comes out on top.
Have the contractor document operational costs associated with each truck. ( ie, gas, time lost due to repairs/maintance )
my framing boss in calgary did sort of that only over a 3 year period. started with a dodge/cummins, had transmission troubles continually, tried the dmax, had multiple injector problems and you couldn't get a leather bench seat in the chebby, got the F350 PSD auto... well, the damn steering wheel kept getting stained from the builders chalk on our hands so we were constantly getting new steering wheels. other than that, the Ford was his best truck. it worked every day. i guess the foreign trucks weren't competing in that field so he didn't try them out...
Thats good he found luck with the ford Sherm. Bad thing is you can find a guy for every make/model with a rock solid story!
I know a ton of guys from each make that swear by their makes. I find the best way is to go out and try to experience them all, then you can make educated assumptions on which ones are good and bad lol.
If one truck was absolutely the better truck, the other companies would be out of business or sticking with cars! I have always had good luck with Fords, only been left on the side of the road once in the last 13 years on driving Fords! So thats why I keep on buying them!
I was watching Driving television this morning and they reported that Ford had drop to 4th in market share behind GM 1st, Toyota 2nd and Honda 3rd. In fine print on the screen was the words " not including light trucks " Why even say something like that, light trucks are a Hugh market and Fords best seller. I wonder the difference light trucks would have made if they were included in the poll!!!
Rating Ford 4th behind Honda is a real low blow and it shows the total lack of any meaningful intelligence.
They probably didn't count fleet vehicles either. Every airport and municipality I can think of has a bunch of F-150's running around. A lot of the counties in TX use CNG converted Ford pickups. Maybe a lot of private sector businesses use Ford's as fleet vehicles that didn't count toward the rankings.

If driving television has no intelligence, who does? Im not saying I agree with them 100 percent either, but guys, check around, post some links instead of blind info!
Having differeing opinions is great, its what makes the world go around, but disagreeing with FACTS, without providing FACTS to support what you are saying, well is just about as bad as the driving television!
I have said this before and will say it again (probably nobody listens anyways!) ----- when the imports start to build a real half ton truck the domestics will suffer badly. I am starting to see more and more of the new Toyotas and Nissans. If it were not for all the rebates and other incentives that the domestics are grasping at the transition would be happening quicker!
Agreeing with me or defending Ford and the other domestics wont make a damn bit of difference.
Thats very loyal of you Sherm, but loyalty has nothing much to do with the market shares of Ford being down below gm, toyota, and honda
I was checking out forbes.com, and the f150 is the best selling vehicle out there though, and rightfully so! They got the light truck market for now.
They do have to watch the imports though, they will sneak up.
