I know when there trying to sell you one there the best thing around. But reality sometimes is different. I dont have one myself but they make it tepmpting.
They just don't put out much heat. The house really doesn't feel warm until the furnace actually kicks in. I think the heat pumps works until about 35-40 degrees, then the furnace kicks in. I just wish it worked better. I won't get another one.
Pat you just save me bunch off money. I ma sure them things arnt cheap. Oh well Ill do more investigating an talk to more people to see if they like them before I do anything. Maybe start a thread about it in the non auto forum,.
The house we just sold in Omaha had a heat pump with gas backup. The gas was set to kick in when it got below 20 degrees. To me, the heat never felt that warm until the gas kicked in. Plus, the stupid thing was always tempermental... the fix-it guy was out 2 or 3 times each winter dinking with it to get it to work right. Fortunately it was still under warranty, the prior owner put that system in. The last time we had it serviced, actually the AC that time, the tech said the newer units were much more reliable. Ours was about 7 years old. I don't know if I'd go with a heat pump again or not... Most of the houses we've looked at up here are all gas, since it's a bit colder in the winter up here.
I had a friend who built a house in Omaha and he put GeoThermal Heat and Air in it. He told me his highest bill was $94 Heat and lights (all electric) for a 4000 sq ft home. He said he loved it.
I've heard those GeoThermal units are the way to go. My buddy in Montana had one, and his house was pretty large... his bills were always low, even in the frigid winters.
We put in a air to air heat pump a couple of summers ago and are real happy with it. If they are size right they run quite a bit, but maintain the heat/cold depending on the season. We have a 30 year old house that is all electric and the heat pump was a big improvement over the old forced air electric unit. Our electric bills have been running less than $200/mo this winter and we also have electric cook stove and water heater. The heat pumps aren't fast for heating a house up if you want to raise the temp. We pretty much just set the thermostat and leave it there.
The GeoThermal is expensive but my friend said that it would pay itself off in less than 10 years. Of course he built his house in Omaha and it was a spec home on Timmeron. He finally sold it but he did take a bit of a beating on it. Of course the person that bought it got one hell of a deal! He also said his most expensive electric bill in the summer was $54.
(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says "Thanks a lot" - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say "you're welcome" ... that will bring on a "whatever").
(8) Whatever: Is a women's way of saying ____YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" For the woman's response refer to # 3.
