So you are saying that the injector gets one signal and from that makes two injections. It sounds like it could work, but I heard exactly the oppoiste. I guess I might have to find it and straighten out everyone else.
the 7.3 PSD that has split shot injectors doesn't use any different electrical signal to fire the injectors. The split shot of the injector is a mechanical function of the injector itself. The programming for splits and single does differ but it timing not pulse that is different.
Common rail engines have the abiltiy to have more than one injection event per compression stroke and that is a function of the computer. but as for 7.3's its the same IDM signal and the pilot shot for splits is built intot he body of the injector
Hi, I'm new to this forum and would appreciate some help. I just bought a 96 F350, 7.3 PS, 4X4 auto. It sat for about 4 months, I got it back to my shop and started the truck and it sems like it is running on only a few cylinders, no problem idling for three days, but still no power when I get it into gear, max speed is about 40 mph. Someone said it might be the IDM (never changed one of these). If its gone, should I replace it with a factory version or does anyone sell a upgraded performance IDM.
It could be an IDM but could be a few other (cheaper) things too. Each valve cover gasket has 2 five pin connectors going into it. unplug and check all 4 for melts/burn pins. if you find them you need to replace the valve cover gaskets and repair any damage to the harness end. Also there is wiring under the Valve cover that could be bad. If you find the connectors not melted then click this link and follow my instructions https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...=1#post5286089
