I run a WVO blend in my truck. It is WVO + 10% kero + 5% RUG + Diesel Kleen (I think the main ingredients are Xylene and Napthalene). My blend is a bit thicker than diesel. kind of between diesel and motor oil. I have duel tanks and I purge with my rear tank about ten miles from home every day. Recently I have noticed that my truck runs WAAAAAAAAAYYYY better on my blend. It runs downright good (unusual as of late). On Diesel it runs like I have a bad IPR (new), old oil, and a clogged FPR all at the same time. It shakes at idle and has terrible throttle reponse. As soon as I switch to my blend is runs fine again. I live in south Alabama so I don't think it is a winter blend issue. I would have posted this in the Bio forum but I don't think that is has anything to do with the chemical make-up of blend vs. diesel. I think that maybe it has more to do with the physical properties of the blend running throught the fuel system. Any ideas??
Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that this is a new occurence. I have been running blend for over a year now and have not noticed a difference in the way the truck runs and the two fuels. Until now.
Could be water. I have noticed this problem with #2 from 2 different places though. The filter looks good but I am going to change it along with the oil ASAP.
Why does my truck run smoother and with no discernable loss of power on blend?!?!? Just don't make sense to me.
Could be a problem in the tank or selector valve. if your running #2 out of the same tank all the time maybe the pickup tube in getting some junk blocking it. or the lines/selector valve are restricted.
You could do some volume and pressure checks first. I would get a fuel pressure gauge and check fuel pressure running each tank then check volume by opening the fuel drain after you have routed a hose to a graduated bucket and crank the engine for say 20 seconds. then switch tanks and try it again. if you get the same volume and pressures from both tanks then its not likely your issue. As a side note when doing the volume test it will be somewhat tricky to be exact since the drian gravity drains so you will need to open the valve after cranking has just started and close it just before cranking starts. so time the drain valve not the cranking time.
