exhaust leak

I have 1996 I6 with an exhaust leak somewere. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same thing? The truck has 140,00kms.

1996 F150 4X4
K&N Flowmaster
MSD
6" Skyjacker
33" Procomp Xterrain

exhaust leak

Yes you could have a leak from a lot of places. Can you have a friend look underneath while you stick your foot on the tailpipe to plug it for a few seconds. My bet is that if it is not the muffler or a pipe than it will likely be the oxygen pipe which leads up to the back of the head from the catalytic convertor.

exhaust leak

I just replaced the pipe from the air pump to the converter. The sound it made drove me up the wall. Between the exhaust leak and the air pump was enough. The piece that rotted away was from the converter to about halfway to the air pump. It's in one hell of a spot.

exhaust leak

These 4.9L are natorious for a exhaust manifold leak...might wanna look into that. The manifolds will warp and cause a ticking noise if thats what it is.

Post exhaust leak

The leak is probably coming from the exhaust rail under your intake manifold. That is why im on here, looking for a cheaper fix than the dealer. New rail and fittings will run around $125! If i find one I'll let you know

thats good to know because my truck has a slight tick to it and i cant seem to trace it down in the exhaust, ill look into to, thanx

exhaust leak

i have a leak too and im looking into using the split manifolds. What bolts do i use to bolt them and my offy intake maifold to the block? also if i install strait manifolds and no exchaust and drive it to the muffler shop, can they make a y pipe and everything i need to set up the exchaust or do i have to buy somethign else?
