Yes you could have a leak from a lot of places. Can you have a friend look underneath while you stick your foot on the tailpipe to plug it for a few seconds. My bet is that if it is not the muffler or a pipe than it will likely be the oxygen pipe which leads up to the back of the head from the catalytic convertor.

I just replaced the pipe from the air pump to the converter. The sound it made drove me up the wall. Between the exhaust leak and the air pump was enough. The piece that rotted away was from the converter to about halfway to the air pump. It's in one hell of a spot.

These 4.9L are natorious for a exhaust manifold leak...might wanna look into that. The manifolds will warp and cause a ticking noise if thats what it is.:-X22

The leak is probably coming from the exhaust rail under your intake manifold. That is why im on here, looking for a cheaper fix than the dealer. New rail and fittings will run around $125! If i find one I'll let you know8D

i have a leak too and im looking into using the split manifolds. What bolts do i use to bolt them and my offy intake maifold to the block? also if i install strait manifolds and no exchaust and drive it to the muffler shop, can they make a y pipe and everything i need to set up the exchaust or do i have to buy somethign else?
