After a king pin job went south - I had the axle pulled - and they 'resleeved' the hole. Reportedly, the loose kin pin over the years wore the hole. "Wallered it out" as my dad would say. but after assurance from the shop that this would fix it - it loosened up again. after about a year. Various folks blame it on 'not greasing' it enough to 'bad king pin work'. It wobbles and I can't stand to drive it - the shop tells me 'that's the way it goes - just drive it - it won't hurt'.
I am scouring yards for another axle - but of course - any one I find - is STILL a 40+ year old one.
Is it possible to get this one done right? Is it a goner? or should I persist in having a machine shop get it right? Was it the king pin job itself?
These were brass bushings too.
There are a few places out there that have unmolested axles. Send a PM to Garbs, he knows the company first hand that makes lowered axles. They may also be able to repair your original one. I think this is the company that he has dealt with in the past. I know they advertise dropping the axle but I am pretty sure that if they can do that then repairing them shouldn't be too far of a stretch. http://www.roadsters.com/axles/
IC does Roadsters axles... Just dropped off a 3.5" dropped 64 to Dave Mann yesterday along with a 32 heavy..IC does not make axles they drop and repair stock ones. 1920s to 1964. Cannot do Twin eyes.
Steve can repair it correctly, however it sounds like there are more than just wear going on with the bushings or bores wallering... Might be a bad set of spindles?

Typical greasing of every three months should be reasonable, how were you maintaining it?
Rebuilding and reboring your original king pin holes is a very simple thing for a good machine shop to accomplish. You merely fill in the holes with weld metal, drill the king pin holes and hone to fit and re drill the keepers, viola, brand new axle.
The king pins are stationary in the axle and turn inside the spindle bosses so not greasing them would not affect the axle but rather the spindles.
The only thing which could "waller" out the axle king pin holes is slop in the holes allowing the pins to wiggle side to side.
Well - there is that 'did you grease them' thing again. not to give you a hard time - I appreciate you chiming in - but yes - I greased them - enough. Heck- it IS a steel axle - I gotta grease them every day? the spindles are about as nice and new as anyone could get.(from Mr. Slick "Uncle Skip" down in Houson Texas) but I depend on the shop to tell ME if things look funny. I just got screwed by the shop. 'scuse me for being defensive - but that is what the shop asked me 'did you grease them"? I wanna slap them - come on guys!!
Seriously! is this rocket science or something? Just hone, ream or whatever - but fix this!!
ok - I gotta go and feed the chickens.

I will be pulling an axle from my wife's truck this upcoming winter, and I could sure hook you up with one. I am also in Texas, so delivery could be possible. The king pins are still pretty tight on it, there is just a small bit of slack in the passenger's side I believe.

Gotta agree, you got screwed. Greasing has no effect whatsoever on the axle side.
