If my EBPV, EBPS and all are clogged up solid, will it stay in the open position all the time with no restriction? Will it still affect performance, mpg etc.? I do not need the *#@? thing anyway. I just don't have time right now to do a delete or a cleanout. Soooo... do I have the desired result by jusy leaving it alone? Thanks in advance!
on a 7.3 the ebp sensor has absolutly no effect on engine operation. its sole purpose is ebpvalve operation. the valve will stay open and the pcm will store a p0478, no light will come on and no effect on motor. if

If the sensor tube is clogged solid, then the EBP sensor will not get a proper reading of exhaust backpressure. The problem here is in cold weather operation of the EBPV, the sensor can end up reading no exhaust backpressure (ambient pressure) or very low pressure and thus not signaling the PCM to open the EBPV. This happened on my truck once, and I managed to reach a peak top speed of 25 mph with EGT's well over redline. The sensor still works, but the tube was clogged solid, so the sensor never saw that backpressure, and the valve stayed closed until engine oil temps came up.
If the sensor (or associated wiring harness) is malfunctioning such as shorting out or causing an open loop, then and only then will the PCM disable the EBPV.

I dont think this is correct, I rember reading about Jody explaining that the EBP Sensor helps determine the amount of load placed upon the engine and through some "if" "then" parameters the PCM adjusts the fuel map. Hold one Ill look it up.

Thanks guys. After reviewing the other info., I think I have chosen to check and clean as soon as time allows. I want to stay as stock as possible, (within reason), but the time to do all is my problem. I will stay subscribed to this thread to see if anything else comes up about this before I check and clean. THANKS AGAIN!
