I disagree here though - Manny contributes in more ways than just crushing pitches. He's an above average fielder, and I think his attitude is a good thing for the youngsters to learn. The Sox got a big payroll, but they also got here not by just grabbing the hottest current talent, but by bringing those young players up through the system, teaching them along the way. Watching Manny play is a good baseball lesson for anyone, playing with him has go to be a real educational trip!
i dont want to see him leave either trust me, what im saying is, i think we would be ok without him, but i definately dont want to see him leave.
who else watched home runs like him from the batters box!!!!!
and flips his helmet off running the bases!!!!
i love it
Yup, I agree. Manny takes a bad rap for showboating, but that's just Manny. Watch him standing at the edge of the dugout when someone else hits a big home run - same stance - arms raised to the heavens! The tv cameras rarely catch that...

The reason the cameras don't catch many others doing that is that Manny has done it so much more than any other guy...more opportunities. He is getting older, however, missing more time from the lineup...will probably need to be replaced sooner rather than later. He's under contract for next season with two club options after that...question is...do you pick up the option after next season...he isn't going to get any younger...skills fade with age. You do need someone in the lineup to protect Papi...a power hitter is necessary...or they will pitch around Ortiz.

My point was not what others might do, but that Manny doesn't just act that way for his own long *****, he celebrates accomplishments by his teammates in the same silly way.
Mechanical ability fades with age, but talent doesn't. You can't hold on to someone forever, but there's more to good ball playering than mechanics. You don't have to look farther than Schilling to see that. Or Brad Mills.
It's been shown that you can go out and put together a "winning team" by buying scattered talent, but it's a momentary victory, a fleeting accomplishment of no real long term value. And it's no where near as much fun to watch as a real team where excellence come from talent nurtured in a true team environment. Who made a more significant contribution this year, A-Rod or Schilling? Constantly trading out players past their peak for ones approaching it is not as great a strategy as it might seem on paper...

remember in cleveland the 453 foot line drive, he stood there arms up in the air for like 3 or 4 seconds, even though they lost that game (down 3-1 after that one), it was still awesome.
its hard to say why mannys numbers were down this year, but it seems like, hes gotten away from the power swinging and those numbers are down, but B.A. is stipp up and rbi's as well.
just h.r. and slugging %, but thats ok.
we may end up with another world series or 2 before this decade is over.
Now we can spend the next few days/weeks speculating over whether Lowell gets re-signed or if that ball-slapping b*tch A-rod somehow worms his way into Boston.
I'd take Lowell and his class, leadership and ability under pressure over the pretty boy, choke-artist Arod. Talk about a lack of professionalism shown by him and his agent - announcing his free agency during the world series....loser.
I agree and hope that the Red Sox DO NOT go after that sorry POS...
The club house atmosphere appears to be 1 team united for the cause of winning it all.. If A-Roid comes with his me me me attitude we are doomed..
A-Roid is only interested in winning a ring for himself and how much do re mi he can pocket..
I would like to see him take over for Lofton by bouncing from team to team in the hopes of a ring, but every time gets nothing...
I would like to see Lofton get his ring eventually.. He seems like a class act..
As tempting as that is, I think the beating I took in the post season from the damn Indians and Rockies, I think I'll dedicate my time and energy finding a new sport like Cricket or LaCrosse.
At least I have my beloved LIONSto keep me happy this football season. Now if my LIONS had played against the New England Pathetics, you'd be crying a whole different tune today. Our time will come.
But, I do owe you a big congratulations on the Sox winning it all. They looked tough as coffin nails and you could tell they wanted it.
