speaking of doing stupid things and how to fix it... a few weeks ago i broke off the bolts that hold the t-stat in and only got one of the holes drilled and rethearded the other hole the drill slipped and broke off a corner of the housing but it's temporary fixed with a smalled bolt some washers and nuts. just wondering if you replace the water pump does it replace that housing it looks like it to me and also what a water pump cost? is there anything i can mod while the pump is off to make it faster??

I just replaced my water pump and it was $325 from ford for the pump, a thing of vc-8 and two gallons of coolant, If I remember correctly. Its a pain in the **** to replace these things. I had my mechainc do it, lol. The thermostat housing I believe is fixed to the water pump, could be wrong.

I ended up taping the hole and threading a nipple with locktite into the radiator. The sealed it with some jb. Seems pretty strong. Lets hope it holds up for awhile.

yes a new WP will replace where your bolts are broken. I would suggest getting a new neck for the hose also as the old ones warp and leak. get a new WP, neck and thermostat and you will be good to go. Oh and the VC-8 from ford or "napa-cool" from Napa. The WP are easy to replace. The fan is the hardest part of the whole deal. If i remember a lifetime WP from Carquest was in the $150 range.
