I have a 97 Explorer XLT V8 AWD 5.0 and I recently replaced the radiator hose, (split right down the middle). Anyway, now there is a pin-hole leak that slowing drips out all of my antifreeze mix after driving. This is a smaller hose I believe or it could be another type of material. I was wondering what I could do about the situation. My idea was to just take the piece out if possible and put some JB Weld on it for a quick, cheap fix for now. I know this can't be the first time this has happened with an Exploder so I'd like to hear some feedback or other suggestions.. OR if I straight up need to figure something else out.. Thanks all!
There are normally two hoses connected to the radiator, lower and upper. If it is either of those you would really want to replace it. Then there is the overflow, which is a skinny tube that leads to the ground. Under normal conditions, it shouldn't be leaking.
Check your radiator cap, it may be the culprit, if it is loose, old or isn't the right pressure rating. You may be overheating and losing your fluid due to the pressure in the radiator, in that case you need to find the reason you are overheating.
When you fill your radiator, you have to fill it and then wait before replacing the cap. If the motor is dry, when the thermostat opens it will suck down the water/coolant from the radiator and you will need to add more. Keep an eye on the level for the next couple of days if that is the issue, to be sure to top it off.
Make sure to check you oil too. I have seen too many time where people have kept having overheating issues with their radiator due to very low oil levels...
