Extra Radiator Connection

I have an extra connection on my radiator (Stock FORD aluminum single row radiator for 1985 F150 with 5.0 engine) that has a vacuum plug with a worm clamp on it. It is located right where the radiator cap is, right UNDER where the hose connects to the radiator overflow reservoir. What was/is this extra connection for?

I have the same thing. I figured it was juat a supplementary outlet for an overflow or something.

The 87 - 9? with a heated throttle body used that port. There would be a T in a heater hose and the other end would go to that port on your radiator.

This way there did not need to be two different radiators made. If your truck had heated TB you just took the cap off and put your hose on.

My '89 4.9 used that port. The smaller hose went to a metal adapter tee to tie it into one of the heater hoses. I noticed this because the tee started leaking. I capped off the radiator and ran a regular heater hose. About three years later I ran across a good OEM tee'd hose and put it back original (just because). But I never did figure out what the smaller hose was for. I drove the truck daily for about 6 years and never noticed any difference in heating or cooling with or without the extra hose.

So I can use this port as a heat source?

I just installed an Autolite 4100 carburetor (hot air choke) on my truck last year, and it has a metal bracket and cradle attached to the choke side where a heater hose is supposed to rest against the choke cap, to help warm the automatic choke spring. Could I run a coolant hose from this extra radiator port, over to the choke cradle, and T it back into the heater hose to help get heat to the choke?

OK, thanks guys. When I said stock, I should have clarified that I bought this radiator last year from Ford as a replacement. It is exactly what came on my truck originally, aside from the extra port.
