Gauges

I just bought a a pillar mount for 3 guages. Im going to buy some type of autometer guages but im not sure which ones yet. I know for sure im going to add a trans temp gauge. But i was wondering where the sender for the guage goes. I have the zf tranny but how do i know where the sending unit goes on the tranny?. My other question is i plan on adding a turbo eventually so im going to have to get a pyrometer for my exhaust temps but is it worth it to through the gauge in there now or should i just wait until i have the turbo?. Also i will need a boost guage for the turbo so i was going to buy the guage but not hook it to anything until i finally get the turbo. but i was wondering what you guys are running for guages in your trucks?

I have a pyro and boost gauge in mine in an overhead gauge pod behind the mirror. Nether of them ever really get high enough to worry about though. Boost will max at 10 psi, and egts at 1000.

Haven't had a chance to put in a tranny gauge yet, but I definately should with an E4OD.

I honestly don't think you need a temp gauge for a manual transmission, automatics are the ones that get really hot and need external coolers.

ill be getting a boost and pyro gauge because i am going to be adding a turbo. but i obviously cant hook up the boost guage until i get the turbo but i was wondering if it would be worth it to install the pyro before i get the turbo?

and about the tranny temp. i know manuals dont get as hot as automatics...but someone told me it would be a good idea to get a temp guage if im going to be towing or hauling stuff...but ill wait and see what others on here have to say

If you were to put the pyro gauge sender at the exhaust manifold, then it can be put in now, Dave S. has a good diagram in his gallery that shows this.

The idea is to have the signal from as close to the pistons as possible. I think the turbo kit have a provision for an EGT gauge, so you can still get a satisfactory signal and less overall work.

Personally, I think it would be neat to compare how the EGTs are before and after the turbo is installed, its really up to you.

Mine is in the casting just before the turbo turbine housing, so the safe max is 1200*F for me.
