2005 F150 XLT 4dr Reg cab

I bought my 2005 F150 with the 4.2 with only 52K miles on it. I've own it for a few years and it has 66K on it right now. Not a lick of trouble with the engine at all. The only problem I've had as of recently is the electronics for the ventilation system screw up. It was a simple fix, just pulled the corresponding fuses from the block and reinserted them and it fixed the problem. I'll keep yall updated if anything else should arise.

BrianA, what happened to your 2000 model truck? I see posts here about it doing good in '03 & then all of a sudden you are posting about your 2005 model in '08.

--------------------

2001 F150
170,000 miles

Oil change: 5w-20 Valvoline full syn + Motorcraft filter every 3,000 miles

Replaced: rear main seal, water pump, radiator, belt, hoses, ambient air temp sensor

Needs replacing: all brake rotors are rusting & cracking

Check engine light went off 2x (about every 80,000 miles). Code P401, insufficient EGR flow. Dealer removes & cleans carbon from intake ports.

Two years after the last post. been gone supporting the STRYKER troops most of that time.

137,000 on the clock. starting to feel heavy and slow,

fuel economy is ferschnickt, down to about 15mpg from over 20 [that's not a misprint] even after upgrading the plugs and air intake.

still having brake issues. don't know if it's from not driving it enough or its from something else. stomp the pedal, it gives me "maybe" power, like theres a possible master cylinder issue?

other than that, still rock stock. still original clutch. still original exhaust on a 12 year old truck.

other than the hydro lock issue, is there anything that can actually kill these trucks short of demo derby driving?

Steven,

I sold the 2000 model when I bought the '05. I never saw it again after I sold it.

Since I changed jobs, I don't put as many miles on my '05. It is at 269,000 miles now.
Still no problems. Still runs just fine.
Perhaps as impressing as anything to me is no problem at all on the original transmission. Shifts and drives just like it did when I bought it.

Have a 98 2wd 5spd. Truck Has 288,000 miles on it. Just started getting poor fuel mileage went from 20+ highway to around 14-15 at best. Always run 10w30 or 5w30 in winter, synthetic oil always change every 3500 miles. Threw a code for IAT sensor, replaced it mileage not any better. Plugs were just replaced with motorcraft platinums. Thinking maybe I have a plugged catalytic converter or bad O2 sensor.

Mileage on a F-150

My girl is a 1999 F-150, 4.2L, 5 speed manual and she's got some issues. But who wouldn't after 246,000 miles! I bought her used with 67,000 miles. She's been a great truck, and for the most part (until the last year) pretty much trouble free. Having some code issues right now, and I am working on that. Got that lovely 1518 code now. Had to replace the vacuum lines, EGR, and PCV recently. I still love my girl!

My 95 F150 is getting old and my wife suggested that I should get another Ford truck to replace my "Nelly Belle" I prefer a 5 speed and gas mileage is a major factor since this will be my DD. The 4.2 looks much easier to service than the Mod V8s. I just finished reading all 11 pages and several other 4.2 threads and will start my search soon.
Thanks to all who took the time to post.
Regards
rikard

170,500 miles
Crank/cam position sensor failure. Sounded like belt/pulley squeal when cold start. Took off belt, started motor, squeal still there. Local shop replaced for $250.

I purchased my 2000 5-spd in 2005 with 92k miles for $7500. Recently passed 237k miles and have had very few problems.

I replaced the upper intake manifold gaskets to fix a mis-fire problem about 4 years ago. The A/C compressor clutch was starting to rattle about a year ago (was still working fine), replaced it with a used compressor and it's been working well. I also replaced the fan clutch when it started to stick. The DPFE, starter, and starter selenoid.

We got stranded when the alternator went out around 100k miles (we had only had it a few months at the time), so I replaced it. I was the only time that I've had a brake down that stranded me.

I just ordered a clutch kit, the original clutch is not slipping but doesn't feel like it's disengaging fully.

I've done all my own repairs and maintenance since purchasing the truck, and overall I've been extremely happy. It's easy to work on and it's been extemely reliable.
