Well the mechanic called back this afternoon and said the only thing he could find was some corroded grounds. He cleaned those and then drove back and forth over the railroad tracks and whatever bumps he could find and he said there were no more problems. He put another 33.2 miles on it trying to duplicate the problem with no luck. He suggested I could take it to a dealer if I was still worried and asked if I would call him to see what they could find. He said he could probably do the work for about 1/2 of what the dealer would charge if I wanted to bring it back after they diagnosed it.

He also said that even though he's been playing with this for 2 days and has logged over 130 miles in the truck, since all he did was clean some battery cables he wasn't going to charge me anything since he may not have fixed anything. If anyone needs an honest mechanic in Dallas let me know and I'll give you his name.

With another bump incident I do believe it is an electrical issue, I'm just wondering if the bad fuel pump was related or just a coincidence. I planned on driving it like I stole it on the way home but the pouring rain only let me go about 30 mph. I was able to get up to 70 mph after the rain let up for about 15 miles and then drove it home on the 2 lane country roads that are torn up with potholes. I was able to do a selective diagnosis (pothole left side, pothole right side, pothole both sides at the same time) I hit some so hard I heard the tools in my toolbox bounce up and hit the lid. After hitting every pothole and dip I could find for 77 miles I never had any issue (other than rattled teeth) with no issues from the truck.

So if it happens every once in a while it's a glitch, if it happens fairly regularly it's a bug, if it cannot be fixed it's a feature. Do I have a glitch, a bug, or the new christmas feature (blinking lights and pull over and take a break from what your doing)

Do you think it's fixed or will I be stranded again soon?

Update

It's back but different. Did anyone really think it was the ground on a cable?

It made it 173 miles after picking it up from the mechanic and found a few bumps it didn't like. This time the truck never died but the ses & fuel light flashed for about 2 seconds. I did notice it was not the low fuel light but the water in fuel light that flashed. They both come on and go off at the exact same time. Yes I did check and No there is no water in the fuel bowl. Instead of dying the engine drops down to idle while the lights are on, and when they go off the engine responds to the accelerator again. It did this 6 or 7 times within 3 miles and then it seemed to disappear. All the rest of the bumps on the way home didn't phase it.

I'll be taking it to a dealer tomorrow with hopes they may have seen something like this before.

Any electrical geniuses out there who can figure out how the SES & water in fuel light are connected, coupled with the fact that the glow plug light seems to know if the truck will start or not? I'm starting to think a dealer will end up guessing bad PCM then a week later I'll be back complaining of the same problems.

I remember seeing a movie along these lines a long time ago. Something about "close encounters of a ...", and a large disk like object hovers above a pickup truck (a Ford as I recall), and all the truck lights started flashing and the engine died. Was anything casting a large shadow on your truck when it acted up this time?

Same problem

My 2001 F250 7.3L 6 speed is having the same problem this morning. It did this before so I changed the fuel filter that was really bad. I thought that fixed it. This morning it stalled, kick and stopped on the road. I tried to restart it and it would not start. I pushed it off the road and it restarted. I drove it to a garage and left it there to get scoped.

Hopefully your is only a $25 CPS. If that's the case make sure your mechanic sells you the new inexpensive version, not the old $150 part. The new part number should end in a "B" from Ford.

I cant remember if its been mentioned before, but have you tried unplugging the PCM and then plugging it back in again after checking the connections, etc?

I recall seeing the mention of rain during your original problem. Check out my posts #4 and 5 here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/592457-flashing-od-light.html?highlight=dielectric+grease concerning troubles with connectors getting wet, and the use of dielectric grease.

Not sure how to do the link but there is another thread started by Rascal1 on loss of power and someone relayed some info that looks like it may apply to your situation.
