Marked, or Red Dye diesel is for "off-road" equipment as classified by DOT. CARB was even looking for Refer Units in our yard (refer unit on a garbage truck?). They can inspect ANY commercial vehicle at any time without probable cause. The alternative to not allowing the inspection is, O.K. you don't drive on our roads.
The statement "just walk away from Red Dye" is true, true, true.
Red fuel is OK in refer units. I have letter(s) from the state about the issue.
Red fuel is for any off road use. Unless you're a farmer running farm plates. In MN the DOT will pull over any diesel pick-up that drives by and dip the tank. If you get caught it is be cosidered tax evasion. That can cause real big problems.
Its not a state thing. Its federal. Its ten grand no matter where you are. 30 cents a gallon savings . . . how long would that take to make it worthwhile. Nope.
All the troopers here have a nifty little dippy sticky and if you get stopped for just about anything at all in the world and you have a diesel with DOT tags . . . oh yeah. You're gonna get checked.
You can't purchase it at a station anywhere. My family has a farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is intended for the agricultural equipment only as it is exempt from the excessive taxes.
I live in Cincinnati Ohio and the D.O.T. sets up checking stations in a closed rest area north of the city on I-275 our beltway and post signs that read " If it runs on diesel you most stop" I went in once they were busy and just flagged me through however they were checking another Superduty and a VW as well as all the big trucks. It's not worth it just pay your taxes, get over it. Or don't drive in Cincinnati you'll get caught.

reefer= short for refrigeration term been around guess since bunker unit went out
doubt very many know what a bunker was either
Well, I thought it might be "reefer"! Running red is ok in a reefer? That doesn't make sense... but a lot of government doesn't. What state might this be?
I know of a couple of locals that were caught when they used the same fueling station too frequently. It's all on camera. It is available at most filling stations, usually the last pump or out back of the station.

the refer is a separate unit on the trailer so. it is no different than a gen set. or any other stationary engine when it comes to red fuel.
