Marked Diesel?

I run marked diesel in my 7.3ltr 2001 f350, I was just wondering if this would cause problems down the road?, I also use Power Kleaner product by Howes just about every fill up. Does anyone else run marked diesel and what has your experience bin with it? Thanks Rus

ok, I dont see why it would harm anything, I use it in dozers, excavators daily. motors will last a long time with it I believe it just has the dye in it because it is ment for a non taxable use. I dont think anybody would use it if it could harm your engine. Just is illegal... Still wrestling that dilema in my head is 2.29 for off road and 2.77 for on road.. At least where I am located..

I've run several tankfulls and not a problem. Just don't get caught or you'll be paying big. It's the same as the pump fuel, just the govt. doesn't tax it as heavy. Thus the dye for identification purposes.

One thing, It only takes a couple ounces of the dye to be detected in a tank full of #1! I know 2 people that have been caught, here is M.S its a $10.000 fine, the two guys that were caught were like you, they ran it there equipment (off road equip) and figured why not!

Good luck, Just watch out for D.O.T they are one of the people that do occasionally test for it!

It's not much cheaper than white diesel to make it worth the risk.. Think about it. You are saving the .40 of tax, but how much diesel can you buy with 10k instead of paying the fine.

Dad is right. Just a little red diesel will turn a whole tank. Been there- done that. AMOF, red diesel is actually better to run in our trucks now. It is exempt from all the EPA standards so it lubricates better than LSD and ULSD. Diesel Kleen is still cheaper than getting caught though, LOL.

I run marvel mystery oil in my tanks. It is red in color too, as anyone ever been acused of running the off road diesel when they were actually using an additive that turned it red? Can they tell the difference when they dip it? I would hate to get a fine when I want even using it.

There is a disticnt differance, they put the Red dye in #2 just for that reason, they do know the differance. I am not trying to change your mind, this is a FREE county, Only you can make that dicision for yourself! I just wanted to let you know what could happen, the chances of getting caught, SLIM, but if you do!
Have a great day!

Of all the things my dad always told me, two of them have ALWAYS proven to be true, from my experience, anyway:

1. Hard heads make for soft butts.
2. People do what they WANT to do.

No it's a $10,000.00 fine in Arizona. The price savings is not worth it and once you quit using it, it's hard to get the red dye out of your tank!!

I work for a solid waste disposal company that also does landfill operations. We buy millions of dollars of diesel fuel each year, both #2 and Red Dye.
The California Air Resources Board Enforcement Division has just finished inspecting 7 of our 11 operating divisions. They dipped our on-road collection vehicles to see if we were cheating by using our off-road fuel in our on-road trucks (we don't). They also asked if we had any diesel powered medium or light duty diesel powered trucks, and dipped them too.
They even looked at my personal truck (F250 PSD) and asked if it was a company truck.
They're out there, and inspecting in California.
