I'm seriously considering the purchase of a 99 Superduty Supercab Lariat F-250 with 159,000 miles. It is at a dealer. What should I look for and be concerned about before signing the dotted line? I haven't purchased a vehicle with this many miles since I was a kid...I'm a bit nervous about the miles.
Ask for an OASIS report first. This will tell you all of the warranty work done by a dealer to the vehicle.
I bought my 2003 back in Feb and that's the lesson I learned. In my case the report came back with a couple of minor non-drive train issues so I bought the truck and have been happy since.
I bought a used powerstroke during the summer months a couple of years ago and didn't find out that I had to replace all the glow plugs until the weather got cold.
The landscape company I work for just purchased a 99 f250 with 195,000 miles. Take the truck for a drive and if you have a friend or know someone that works on these trucks have them look it over. And the Oasis report is a must
I bought a F-350 3 months ago with 147,000 mi and am happy so far. I looked it over pretty good and it was clean. I however did not jack it up and check the hub bearings and had to replace the left hub with in the first week. other than that if it has been cared for the miles would not bother me except for the trans. and I am still uncertian of the life left in mine.
seems like the early ones had a smaller turbo and a few other related things... they basically have a wicked-wheel in stock form, but i guess if you start putting the mods to them you can't pull quite as much power out of 'em as you ca the later ones.
make sure the overdrive light on the shift column isn't blinking.
Pooh Bah, go to the 6.0 folder....there's a thread there for us to request an OASIS report. You'll need the VIN for them. Post the VIN and one of the guys will reply with results.
