Whats the trick to remove the headlight switch on a 1949 truck. Most switches I have seen use a button to remove the shaft but this one does not have one.
If you pop out the starter button you should be able to see the slot in the headlight switch where you insert a small screwdriver to release the shaft.

Not to start a contest but the 48 - 60 Forum has the most mechanical activity of any of the groups here. We are more likely to completely disasemble our projects and spend several years on a slow repair/rebuild.
We encourage all posters to get and be familer with both the parts/shop manuals.
The more an individual learns by themselves, the better they can expain their particular problem.
I am more interested in sharing my 50 yrs of expierence by explaining the "easier way" then telling someone what bulb to change when the light goes out.
I tried pushing the release button for the headlight switch and pulled and twisted as hard as I can and the stem will only come out about a 1/4" what am i doing wrong? what can i do to remove it?
Yes i turned the **** all the way to the left (counter clockwise) then pushed the button in and can only get the stem to come out about 3/16" then it feels like its stuck on something.
The truck sat outside with no windshield for about six years.
