Im trying to get the dome light working on my old 67. I measured the voltage coming out of the head light switch and it only reads 8.4 volts. Then I measured the volts on my 77's switch and it is reading 12.6 volts.
I cleaned the conector on the switch and its still 8.4 v.
Would this indicate a bad switch?
Or is there somthing else I should be looking for?
Pull your switch if you haven't already. The rheostat has been known to get brittle and break in two. Then it is replacement time. These switches have been known to go bad with age. (been there done that)
Remove the battery cable for safety. Pull the headlamp **** all the way out.
Reach up underneath the dash to the bottom of the switch...there's a spring loaded button on it. Push it in...then pull the **** and shaft from the switch.
Remove the nut that holds the switch to the dash panel, gently remove the electrical plug from the switch, the switch is now free of the dash.
It's not necessary to push the button in when re-installing the **** & shaft, just line it up, and push it in. You'll hear two audible clicks when it's in situ.
