I was told by the dealer that I need new upper and lower ball joints on my 04 Screw 5.4 but the want $450 a side. I was trying to find the parts myself because I like to use Moog but I can only find the upper ball joint being sold with the upper control arm. I was wondering if it is a one piece unit, meaning you can't replace the ball joint only. Thanks.
I did mine myself. The upper is not serviceable. the lower is. I just bought new upper and lower control arms from Ford. I don't have a press to get the lower out, or back in. When I was done just for SG I beat the H out of the lower to se if it would come out. It didn't. It's not hard. You will need some large metric wrenches Sears sells a 5 piece set I think it was 20MM 21, 22, 23 24 or 5, then I bought a 30MM and a big socket. My dealer wanted close to 700 if my memory serves me. I paid 99.60 for the upper and 238.05 for the lower. I probably spent 70 to 100 on new tools. Then you still need to get it aligned. So you can save $200 if just get the lower ball joint. I'll post some pics. If you dig back a few months there is a very good thread with pics and instructions for an around an 03 it's not the exact same but worth a look.
