I gather the previous generation 150s ate front end components at rediculously low mileages. Do the new trucks still eat ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.?
I had to change my lowers at around 70000km. Just got another clunk...most likely the uppers. Ford will tell you the control arm and lower ball joint are one piece, but I bought MOOG problem solvers which are greaseable, and just pressed them into the old arm. Truck is an 04 SCAB

Now you tell me. I am right now in the middle of replacing uppers and lowers on my 04 scab 65000 miles. I do run fairly heavy with a very full tool box ,ladder, shovels, digging bar etc. For told me the lower is sevicable but ball jhoint wasn't available yet. spent about 410 on upper and lower. Ford wanted around 1000 to do it. I just came in to warm up. We got 3 inches of snow in eastern Pa. last night. I'm shade treeing it in the driveway. I'll have pictures in my gallary when I'm done.
Maybe your lift kit could add to the equation. Anytime you lift or lower, you change the geometry of the suspension and could add extra wear factors in.
He's only got a leveling kit. I doubt that has much to do with it. I haul some weight too and the roads here are pretty bad. Good show for changing them yourself. Unless it's covered under warranty or I'm totally at a loss, I never bring my truck to the dealer.

I never did use dealers in the past. When I bought this truck they said free inspection for the life of vehicle plus all other vehicles in the household. I went over the truck thinking I had found any problems. I didn't think to check the ball joints at 65000. I'm still happy with this truck. It's given me very few problems.

Reason: change facts
Leveling kit will also change the geometry of the suspension, whether you raise or lower the vehicle it changes the geometry, simple physics. Hualing weight is really spread along the rear axle and not so much the front.
The same goes for adding hub extenders, it puts more load on the wheel bearings.
Had drivers side sway bar link replaced @ about 25k. It was making a nasty clunking noise. Otherwise, all else has been good with the front end ; 38k now.
Ive babied my truck and my ball joints (lowers) are both shot at 17,000 miles and Ive never towed or loaded the truck with anything more than three people and my tires wore badly very uneven(stock 18 inch Goodrichs) and I always rotated them plus I have the dreaded steering wheel shimmy.it is an 05 Lariat now with 26,000 miles and now the tranny is junk and oh ya I almost forgot the power steering pump went at 12,000...I must be unlucky enough to have gotten a lemon..crazy thing is that I still love the truck..Im getting the ESP plan this week..The Moog ball joint set up is the way to go with greasable and replacable tops without changing the arms! Sorry I got off the subject of the post but Im just venting in a polite way.
Took my truck in to get a door tightened yesterday, and talked to an older guy(69) who had the same truck as me, 07 F150 XL, that he pulled a 4-horse trailer with, 52,000 miles in five months. He did tell me that he had to have the ball-joints replaced at 42,000 miles, so be ready! He didn't make my day. So far, no vibrations in my truck, three weeks, and 1200 miles.
