I am shopping for gauges finally. Question about the boost gauge. Why do some boost gauges have boost in psi and vacuum in Hg? Is this necessary or should I get one with just boost only? I am shopping on egauges and am looking at the Autometer C2 (cobalt 2) gauges. Also, is this the best place to get gauges or is there a better place. I looked at Beans and they are reasonable with the prices but not much selection.
Boost gauges with vacuum are for gas engine. You do not need a vacuum reading. I purchased my gauges from Diesel Manor, good price, good people, and they can answer any questions that you have. Just my .02.
I looked at both of those places. Thanx guys. Hewitt did not have prices posted on their website and not a big selection. Am I at the wrong place, hewittindustries.com?
From what I have read here I believe a 0-60 psi boost gauge is all I will need. Am I right or will a 0-35 psi do?
35psi gauge will do just fine. And yes you have the right website. They are more whoelsale but if you email the guy at hewitt he will give you some prices and sell ya some on the side.
I went to ebay...Got a new autometer Z series pyro for 108.00 and new z series boost for 35.00 and autometer 2 gauge pod for 26.00... gotta love ebay. 35 psi is all u need i never see anything over 15-20 and thats only when i hammer on it.

Aaah thanx fpr the tip. So I should never exceed 35 psi even if I go to Stage I's or II's? I am doing the IDM mod as well and hopefully new intakes etc. later on.
you'll see anywhere from 31-33psi with stage 1's and very possibly 40-45 with stage 2's. So if you plan on that in the future then get yeah a 60psi gauge. My hewitt unit is a 50psi gauge
I will get some grief and flack for this but I think Hewitt superceeds Autometer by far. I have never had any problems with my gauges where i have heard of to many people having problems with EGT gauges and faulty Trans readings. My EGT gauge is dead on temp wise, where as some Autometers I have seen can be off up to as much as 35*. I have seen this happen on three powerstrokes. So yes I think Hewitt is better then Autometer but thats just my opinions and experiences. Plus, they cost half as much as the autometer and they're close to a stock look witch i really enjoy.
Just a note on the Autometer C2's they are great gauges. Look very nice. extremely bright (too bright, had to resistor them down to about 25% and they still light up the crew cab) but they are extremely expensive. had the previous owner not put them in I would not have them. They do match my instrument cluster overlay perfectly(I hate the stock cluster, nearly impossible to read). The ultra lites is what I would have bought. Still might since I have a few more gauges I need.
yes ultra lites are autometer and they should be on egauge.
I have no idea how many resistors I ended up with. I have a bunch though. I think its close to 1000 ohms. They are led lights and require very little power to light them. I am going to be getting a varible potentieometer soon so I can dial them in right where I want them.
