I have a '79 F250 with the 400/C6, standard cooling, no A/C.
My concern is that I can't find any lower radiator hose with the spring in it anywhere. I bought a Goodyear hose without one anyway. I was hoping I could somehow retrofit the spring from the old radiator hose to the new one.
If you want the spring, you probably know its purpose is to keep the lower hose from collapsing under the suction provided by the water pump. If your Goodyear hose is designed for that application it should have the ability to resist collapse. (It could even have some internal reinforcement.) Do you suspect that the hose had a spring that got separated from it at some point? Another spring (in good condition) from another hose could be used if it is the right diameter to fit the hose's ID. You could even stretch it a little, but remember the end sections of hose are supported by the fittings they are installed over. (YES, I have done this myself.)

Reason: spelin . . .
Yes, I'm aware of its purpose hence my wanting to fit it to the new hose.
It fits, so it probably is the right application. It still came without one. I'll browse for others just to make sure. Even if it's been improved, I'd rather still have the spring just in case. It's never bad to over-engineer. It's a brand new one. Doesn't look like anything was in there except some dust. I'll try to take the spring out and fit in the new hose and see what happens.

Is this possible??Thanks, all.
The hose is obsolete from Ford, but FTE sponsor GREEN Sales in Cincinnati, Ohio shows one in stock. (800-543-4959) Call 'em up and have the fellow check the hose to see if there's a spring in it.
