The circuit should already have a relay to handle trailer lights and all, mine does.

Yup. The 7-pin trailer plug harness has a black wire with a light green tracer that is for the trailer back-up lamps. It is isolated from the truck's back-up lighting circuit with a relay that "makes" only when the truck's back-up lights come on.

Hook up the additional back-up lights to that wire. Other side goes directly to a good ground.

That current is supplied from the same 20-amp fuse that supplies the trailer's running lights, too.

This arrangement allows the trailer electrical to be all kinds of shorted and corroded (it often is) and you only blow the trailer lights, and not affect the truck's lighting.

As long as we are clear this is the trailer circuit then I agree. The 18ga wire for the truck onboard backup lights is not nearly heavy enough for those driving lights. Just want to be clear for anyone who reads this in bits and pieces, since we're up to 258 posts.

But well worth it if it prevents you from making a mistake that shorts or overloads something, and lets out the smoke!

Gotta' keep the smoke inside the wires!

My point was for fordguy622 who just wanted them to come on with his reverse lights is that he does not need a switch, just hook them up in the back to the harness and ground them back there somewhere.

Just subscribing so I can continue showing these lights off to my friends! We are all going out to buy these same lights at the same time and are going to make a party out of installing them in our trucks.

Also, I will be using the switch vs. using the reverse lights as a trigger for the relay... this way they may be able to help me 'persuade' those pesky tail gaters to back off

So long as that tailgater isn't a LEO!

It's a sure way to get cited.

The pics aren't there for me either. This is an old thread. He probably removed them from wherever they were being hosted. You can start a new thread if you have some kind of questions.

Here is a similar post in a different forum, but this one has pics of the same lights. Just run down to Post #20 in the thread linked below.

EDIT: Better Yet... here's a link to an Advance Auto page where you can order the same lights for $32 plus S&H.

These:
Blazer/Ultra white driving lights (UW3534) | Auxiliary Lights | AutoZone.com_

I wired mine to an 30A upfitter. Bearhunter had a relay so that they turned on with his stock reverse lights. I wanted full control of when they were on, and it simplified the wiring as well.

100% sure way I'ld say.

If it causes a wreck and some third party sees it and get's a tag number and we got it and get a BOLO oput and find it, and if that wreck results in $1000 damage or personal injury, it'll result in an additional felony hit and run charge ... at minimum.
