When someone gets some info on these light, please post it! If I can find them, I'd love to tackle this mod this weekend.

Hey bear Hunter, that's one sweet truck!

On Edit: Opps, seems I missed the last page... Got the info now!!

these lights do get hot if you have them on for a while. there are better ones, but alot of people like to conceal them. i have em and had to mount them under the hitch because on my excursion, the clearance is less.

on a halogen light bulb, there is a filament that conducts electricity and actually turns white hot. thats where you get the light from. just like a bulb in your house. An HID light had no filament, it has a ballast, ignitor, and actually arc's accross the gap inside the capsule. its like a flourescent bulb. the biggest difference is that an HID light doesn't draw nearly the power that a halogen bulb will. it also stays alot cooler.

OK, OTHERS, DID I SAY IT RIGHT KINDA OR DID I SCREW SOMETHING UP???

pretty close hid uses a high voltage to excite a gas witch than emits the light & since the light is not from a resistance source much less amperage is used per lumen produced.

I've wired several vehicles over the years with back light relay setups like this and found one great trick for weather proofing the relay. Wire everything up with a touch of dielectric silicone on the contacts and make sure the lights work properly then get a can of plasti-dip (not the spray) and dip the wired relay into the stuff 2-3 good coats will do it. Once it's dry then screw the relay down where ever it's convenient and forget about it! I'm in the snowy-salt laden North and would rot off a relay every season until I started doing this. I've never had to replace a relay since - the whole thing is sealed and doesn't corrode.

those are sick but i feel like they would just get wrecked off-road when you get burried frame deep in some sloppy mud

Me too.

Thank you for putting together this how to. I have been wanting to do this for quite some time and would have never thought of the diode trick.

Freaking awsome that I can use one set of lights to help with night time trailer hook ups (via my upfitter switch) and while reversing.

I used the same lights you did and even swapped the 55w bulbs for 100w bulbs prior to putting them on the truck. I also used the Velcro that you mentioned... but gotta say that I am not real confident of longevity, but will wait and see.

Installed in about 2 hours...

And on with reverse.

One thing that I learned during this install was that my reversing lamp wire was not the black/green that you refrenced in your install. It turned out to be the black/pink on mine. (2005 PSD)

Again thanks for taking the time to share your learnings.

Regards,
Duke
