1999 4.0 starting problems

My 1999 Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0 and auto is starting to have a starting problem. When I go to start it in the mornings it just wants to crank for a while and then maybe fire. I started cycling the key a couple of times and it will usually fire after the second key cycle but seems to be loading up on fuel and takes a few seconds to clear up. That leads me to think I am loosing fuel perasure in the rail maybe due to a bad check valve in the pump if there is one. Even after it is warm and I have just shut it off it will do it also at time and other times not it will start with no problems. Any ideas this site has helped me many times before and I need help again. There are not any trouble codes present.
