Fuel pump Or????
I just bought it two weeks ago so im trying to figure out the ins and outs. The problem I'm having is when i drive it and it sits over night i get in it and try to start it but it just cranks and cranks. After trying and trying it will fire up and drive fine go to the store go in come out fire it up and drive no problem. This is on the back tank. The front tank pump is bad. So is the pump weak and when I cycle the key back and forth is it turning the pump on and off enough times to build enough pressure to get it To Start ? Or is it the fuel filter?
Well, without a fuel psi gauge to test, its a roll of the dice.
Without trying to start it, just turn the key on and off 3-4 times, cycled momentarily between each turn. Then try. Other than that redneck test, check for stored DTC's and check fuel PSI.
On the front tank I can't hear any pump whine so it's not working but when I switch from the back tank to the front tank with the switch the gas gauge goes past the full mark another almost quarter to half a tank and I know the tank is empty. I'm wondering if the front pump and sender maybe some body was messing with it or just age causes it to loose it's ground. Amy thoughts? My last 97 crew with a 460 I had ignition issues that went away with a complete ignition tune up cap wires plugs dist. cap rotor. Then coil then distributor.
But the back FDM could have a bad HP check valve doing it also.
The front tank circuit may have a bad selector switch on the dash causing the gauge reading.
A bad ground is not likely because both tanks use the same ground and the wires run inside the harness but the harness could be cut also or a bad plug on the pig tail of the front tank.
