F350 6.0 died and wont start, changed fuel filters

Hello all, I'm brand new to this site. Have not updated my profile yet, but have a no start problem and looking for answers. Here's the rundown. Friday afternoon I was driving home from work(45 min drive), truck lost power and came to a stop and stalled. A week ago I got the oil changed. Bought new fuel filters and was planning on changing them today(Saturday). Ended up changing them on the side of the road where it broke down on Friday. It fired right up after the change. Ran for maybe 1-2 min at the most. Then stalled out and haven't been able to start it since. Truck has ARP studs, EGR delete, 5" straight pipe exhaust, 6" lift kit, 37" tires, bullydog tuner(came on truck, plan on changing to SCT). I don't do any off roading or hard driving/racing. I keep the tuner on performance setting. I just had the fuel pump replaced maybe 6 months ago.

When I pull the cap off the engine mounted fuel bowl, there is no fuel in it. If I leave the cap off and cycle the key(not trying to start it, just cycling the key to try to purge out any air in the system), fuel flows into the bowl(only about 1/4 full though) as well as air bubbles, then when I turn the key to the off position the fuel drains back out of the bowl till it's empty. Every time I cycle the key it does this. I'm stumped. Any ideas on what the problem could be? The CEL is not lit. I checked for codes and the only ones I can see are the egr insufficient flow(normal due to the delete kit), and there's a new one I've never had before for the exhaust back pressure sensor. Also, the fuel tank is full so there is definitely enough in there. I'm not sure if there's any other info I need to tell, if so please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help. I'm now going to update my profile.

P.S. I changed both fuel filters on my 2005 excursion 6.0 today with no problems. Fired right up afterwards.

Thank you for the quick reply. However I can't get the bowl to fill. Before I turn the key over the bowl is completely empty. When I turn the key over, the bowl only fills about 1/4 of the way, then it drains back down to empty.

Pull the frame mounted fuel filter and check the cap for cracks or a bad oring. How did the filters look that you changed? It could be that the fuel pump is or has gone south on you. Also what is the year of your truck and the miles.

I would say you are in the market for a fuel pump,, it's a pricey deal. Almost $400 at the dealer. The parts stores sell the pump only,, you get the entire housing from the dealer,, a new filter is already in the housing if you go to the dealer. I only install the oem pump. The pump runs every second the engine runs,, so it's not a wise place to go cheap.

As long as the line from the tank isn't blocked up,, iirc it takes about 3 in of vacuum ( or mercury) to pull fuel through. It's the bottom left line on the hfcm cover. 6inches is the spec. And if the plug has juice to power the pump,, then it's the pump.

The Ford part number for the pump: 6C3Z-9C407-AA or 6C3Z-9G282-C ($310 from Auto Nation White Bear Lake) - which is the full HFCM I believe.

Personally I would have no issues with installing the Parker Hannifin (parent company of Racor) pump - PFP58054 ($145)
http://www.maesco.com/catalog/produc...roductid=19737

Parker Hannifin was intimately involved with International regarding the fueling system specs. Maybe this would make for another good search for the OE manufacturer - lol (btw - thanks for your diligence on the posts and research on the head gaskets Anthony)!

Looks like Ford quit selling the pump only or never did : 6C32-9C407-AA (see page 5 of the catalogue link below) is not a valid number in the parts system.

I pulled out the new filter again yesterday. Seemed fine. O-ring was fine as well. Truck is an 07 with 145,000kms(maybe 90,000mi). Do the fuel pumps go south that quickly? I just had a new one installed maybe november/December. I guess I should've also mentioned that in the week before the truck died on me, upon initial startup it was blowing a lot of bluish smoke out the tail pipe. Did that until I started driving. Once driving the smoke would stop and wouldn't reappear until it sat for 10+ hours. I would warm it up for 10 min and while it was still in park if pushed the gas pedal it would blow a steady stream of smoke out the pipe.
