My Ford E350 dual wheel 1998 motorhome has a slight leak at the pinnion seal. After reading my book on replacement there seems to be 3 kinds used on that year. How do I tell which rear end differential I have?
Find the VIN plate/sticker, and look for the axle code. The code can be decoded and will tell you what axle type you have, the ratio, and the axle weight capacity. If you have a cutaway (body cut away behind B pillar), the VIN will be on either the door face, or the door post (B pillar).
There is also a metal tag on one of the rear axle center section bolts with the Ford axle ID number, and numbers/letters like 61.1 or D70, etc. and the ratio may be listed too.
