Hello - I have a 1973 Ranchero with a non-original engine. A past owner swapped out the 400 for a 351C 4v, probably out of a 1972. It may be a 351CJ. Anyway - I am trying to identify the carburetor. It is a Ford carb, presumably the original for that engine. Where does it say what model it is - or how can I identify which one it is? I want to troubleshoot it and need to identify it first. My next question will be where I can find maintenance information online. Thanks...
First of all are you sure it's a 351C? If he swapped out the 400 then he had to have swapped the tranny too since they have different bellhousing bolt patterns.
As far as the carb goes is it a Holley? If it is then look at the air horn, there will be a List number stamped into the front of it, ex. 6919. You can take this information to the Holley website and look up all the specs:
LAST EDITED ON 13-Aug-01 AT 09:53 AM (EST)[p]It is a 351c 4v. I am basing this on the width of the intake, the fact that the air cleaner says it (yeah ,yeah, I know) and the fact that it has a factory (Ford) 4v intake. The 400 never shipped with the 4v heads and there was never a 4v factory intake for it (other than rumors). The transmission was apparently swapped with the engine.
Moot point as far as the carb is concerned now - I bought an Edelbrock carb over the weekend and will soon install it. The more I looked at the Autolite carb the more I realized that it was rebuilt and installed by an amateur. I am more familiar with the Edelbrock/Carter carbs and paid less than I would have paid a mechanic to rebuild and install the factory carb. Thanks...
