Anyone have advice for my van's transmission woes. I have a 1997 E250 with 200,000mi that shifts all over the place when cold and starting from a stop. Once it's warm or exceeding 30MPH it smoothes out.
I had the tranny rebuilt at 170,000mi but they did not replace the solinoid pack at that time. Two weeks ago this shifting thing started and they tried replacing the TPS first and then the solinoid pack, but neither worked.
The shifting, whether hot or cold, is controlled by the computer unless you have the shift lever in manual 2nd..
Has the shop performed the proper drive cycle test and the pinpoint diagnostics specified in the shop manual? Doesn't sound like it, sounds more like they're just guessing.
I don't know about a "drive cycle" test, can you explain that to me? What they (transmission shop, not dealership) did do was hook a diagnostic thing to the van and it showed no fault codes so they said lets try one thing at a time starting with the cheapest. They replaced the throttle position sensor and now the soliniod pack. The computer is next and I found one in a junk yard for $100. but wanted to pick brains over here before I got it.
Still need someones help here. I've now replaced the TPS, solinoid pack and the computer.....and still it mis-shifts at low RPM. Could I have a sticking valve in the valve body or a broke spring?
