It's been a while since I've posted my MPG numbers. It hasn't really varied much. The truck is 8 months old and has 7,800 miles. Overall average has been 10.0 MPG. Towing a 10,000 lb fiver I've averaged 9.1 MPG and empty I've been getting 10.4 MPG.
Running empty, I managed to get just over 12 MPG running from Solvang to Hearst Castle and back.
As an aside, I weathered the San Diego fires OK, was evacuated for a time, but I'm home now safe and sound.
I guess that isn't too bad for having low gears like your 4:10's.

Solvang to Hearst Castle and back? If that's what you mean, the elevation at Solvang is 650' and San Simeon is at sea level. The highest point was ~1,200'. Set the cruise at 70 MPH most of the way. Highway 101 to the Pacific Coast Highway in San Luis Obispo. The PCH doesn't go to two lanes until 20-ish miles before San Simeon.
Recently I towed a 5th wheel from British Columbia to Ottawa, Ontario and return with my 2008 6.4L Psd. The total round trip was 9000 kilometres/5592 miles. The loaded trailer weight is 10,600 lbs and is 31 feet in lenght. The country was mountainous in BC. Prairie in the three Prairie Provinces, and rolling hills in Ontario. I cruised at 90Kms/hour/ 55 Mph.
The truck is a 2008 PS, SD, Lariat, 18" wheels, 3.73 rear end, and A/T. The fuel mileage was: eastbound 11.66 miles per Imperial gallons, or 9.71 miles per US gallon or 24.23 litres per 100 Kilometres. The return trip westbound was normally against headwinds including 30-50 MPH headwinds for one day. The mileage was 9.81 miles per imperial gallons, or 8.17 miles per US gallon or 28.80 litres per 100 kilometrres.
The truck preformed flawlessly and an absolute delight to tow with. The truck now has 24000kms/ 16000 miles so I am hoping to see some improvement in fuel mileage shortly.
Not sure what your comment means, but, I have 4.10 gears and DRW, and with a 10,000 to 11,000 lb fiver behind me pulling through the mountains, I have no problem keeping it at 65 with the A/C running. Engine & tranny temp gauges barely move. There's plenty of power to spare.

I'm interested in your mpg's when pullin?
at 65 mph

I get 9 - 10 pulling my fiver in mixed flat and mountain driving. I live in San Diego, so I gotta climb some mountain to get out. On the dash computer on the flat, I get over 11 MPG.
Given the frontal area of my fiver, I'm not complaining.
last trip pulling 7000#, at 63, cruise control, flat to mountains, 13.8 hand cal. return trip down the mountains and then flat about the same. Didn't even know it was back there. Sure beats pulling with the 05 150 I traded in. I'm getting about 15 at present mixed city. mileage has increased with additional mileage. do the best I can to keep it under 10# when cruising. At present pleased with it. The old 150 only got me about 9 mpg pulling, and it labored hard in the mountains. But from what i read about the "flashes" bringing mileage down, I think I will pass on them....

Here's my angst' 3.73's SRW getting High Teens in mpg's, 4.10 DRW getting NO TEENS, What Happened?
Surely a gear ratio and another two tires cut the MPG's IN 1/2
That's what I meant.
Rpms and boost are the key. 3.73s run 65mph at 2,000 rpms go over that an fuel milage drops. 4.10s run about 2150 rpms at 65 and 4.30s run 2200 rpms.
at 60mph on a flat surface my computer shows 18 mpg at 65 It shows 12 mpg. Rural and some city driving I am averaging 14.3 computer and 13.4 hand calculated. If you add hills, more boost, stop, go and over 65 your milage is going to drop. If you are so concerned about fuel milage trade it in for a stick with 3.73's. Myself I think you are complaining a little too much about your decision that you made. Time to move on.
