You'll probably get that nervous feeling going through Barstow on the way home.

Nope, I'm not making fun of you, I just know that's what I'd be thinking everytime I drove through that area. I wouldn't breath a sigh of relief until I was well past there.

I knew you were joking and I was doing the same thing IE joking with you but the bottom line is you are right every time I will be driving thru there I will be thinking about it just to clarify Matt I broke down on the I15 southbound about 3/4 mile before the I91 interchange.
and we all know how many times I will be driving thru that area because you can not go north without going thru there IE Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Lake Havasu, Palm Springs to name few destinations.
the weather is not bad here in Vegas and we are staying at Oasis RV Resort very nice place, Wifi Access, a lot of kids here, mine are really having a ball.
i have 08 f-350 diesel and get at the most 12mpg, hearing of other trucks getting close to 20
I also get around 12/mpg with my 2008 F-250 King Ranch. But I assume everything comes down to driving conditions. The majority of my driving is short-hop Suburban driving. I would assume that long distance driving increases your miles per gallon. And I've noticed this when I've gone on much longer drives. The Avg.MPG will start increasing. Then when I'm back to my suburban driving, I'll start falling again...

It comes down to weight and gearing and more importantly, driving style.
I have an '08 350 dually 4x4 crew cab with 4.10 gears that weighs close to 9,000 lbs empty. I get about 11 MPG in my daily commute. My best MPG numbers have been 13.5 on the freeway at 70 MPH empty, but that's when the motor was new. I average about 10MPG towing a 10,000 lb fiver over the So Cal Mountains.
I've got 6,000 miles on the motor now and it's been slowly getting better.
I have 4000 miles now w/3.73 gears. a recent trip up and down a decent pass running east to seligman az from las vegas running empty at about 75-80 and i got 11.8. all highway driving

Very realistic numbers, my 350 is getting 10-11.5 in town and 13-14 highway no trailer. These 18 and 20 nubers are a joke!!

Hey Mattebury, its been an amazing thread since you started it back in March, bet you never thought it would go so far. An amazing amount of input into it. Your quote here is in a nutshell. nice job!
Just got back sunday night after a little vacation to my hometown in Ohio. Right around 1200 miles round trip averaged 15-15.25 (calculated) lie ometer actually showed 18 at one point. F350 4x4 w/3.73.
9200+ miles on my F450........Still averaging 11.5 empty and consistantly seeing 8.5 - 9.5 towing my 5th wheel.
No issues except darn near running it outta fuel last week....lie-o-meter said 0 miles left to empty for 4 miles before I found a filling station....PHEW! that was close!
