I would be happy to get 8.5 - 9.5 towning. I just did a 400 mile trip pulling my 25ft toy hauler w/o toys and was getting 6.5 - 7.5. I hate the small fuel tanks in these things. I was sick of stopping for fuel every 120 miles. I'm reallt hoping MPG improves with age or this thing wont be going on very many trips.
Oh, normal daily driving I'm getting around 12.5 MPG with just over 1k miles on my engine.
9200+ miles on my F450........Still averaging 11.5 empty and consistantly seeing 8.5 - 9.5 towing my 5th wheel.
No issues except darn near running it outta fuel last week....lie-o-meter said 0 miles left to empty for 4 miles before I found a filling station....PHEW! that was close!
you are not the only one to run out of fuel, well almost, it did happen twice to me and one time I just pulled over turned off the engine and waited for someone to bring me ulsd diesel. by the way do not let it run out until it turnes off it will not start because it is diesel and there are few thing that I think you need to do to get the diesel from the tank to the engine, the second thing usually when the lie o meter says 0 miles left I think it is safe to say that you still have about 3 to 4 gallon in the tank you can find that out when you refill.
enjoy your truck mine is back at the shop again.

VegasF250,
OUCH! What gears do you have and how much does your toy hauler weigh empty?

WolfFox do not be surprised what he is getting is what everyone gets if they push the speed up in the 70+ pulling 10k trailer.
If I push the speed up on my truck pulling my fiver I do get the same MPG and if someone can comment in her about this because of my ignorance in this set up but I think you consume more and put more stress on the truck pulling a heavy load using a trailer versus a fiver with the same weight therefore your MPG goes down.
my MPG is down to 6.5 MPG if I keep the speed at 70MPH from san diego to las vegas using cruise control pulling my fiver which is 15k now I say 70 MPH not 75MPH or 80MPH because in these stretches of the southern california nevada and arizona some people really push the speed up to 80MPH we see it all the time and that eats up you MPG really fast.
I found out that the slower I go the better MPG I get especially at 60MPH and this goes both ways towing or not.
I just got back from Willow Springs (Palmdale) to Las Vegas and got 8.7mpg towing my ~6000# car hauler at 72MPH (cruise control). The lie-o-meter was pretty close at 8.9, I did reset it before I left though.
I almost have 1k miles on my new truck (picked it up last Tuesday)
So far it's averaging 11.5 mpg in the city and on a 300 mile trip I took with it yesterday unloaded (but with 5 passengers), it averaged 15 mpg @ 70-75 mph w/ cruise control. I have noticed the lie-o-meter has been off by 1 mpg...if it says 12mpg, hand calculated it's 13mpg.
I just recently got back from my Alaska trip pulling my 18K+ fifth wheel over the norther rockies and back. Went up as well as done a lot of 7 -8 % grades with no issues. Flat landing I got about 8-9 mpg, Pulling hills it dropped to 6-7. But boy did it pull the hills. WOW. It looks like I am getting about 15mpg empty on the highway. I have a little over 10K on the Odometer. Owned the truck for less than 8 weeks. The only issue I see with the truck is it needs a bigger fuel cell. Having a 250 mile range pulling the F'ver kind off sucks. Had to streach the fuel stops way past the empty mark at times. A nice 50 to 60 gal tank would be nice.
I've got 3,500 miles on my '08. If I keep the cruise set around 70 on the highway, I can see close to 17. Once you get in hills though, or start driving in town much it drops to around 15. Towing 13,000 lbs boat....8.5
Just got back sunday night after a little vacation to my hometown in Ohio. Right around 1200 miles round trip averaged 15-15.25 (calculated) lie ometer actually showed 18 at one point. F350 4x4 w/3.73.
Just got back from an 800 mile round trip to the central California coast. I averaged 9.9 MPG. Included being stuck in L.A. on the 101 through down town for an hour behind an accident.
I have an 08 F-250 with 800 miles on it. Running 35's. I drove 300 miles (all flat) today empty and got 17mpg running at 70-75mpg. I will do the hand calc tomorrow when I fill up to see if the DIC is correct. First tank was 13.5mpg average.
It's been a while since I've posted my MPG numbers. It hasn't really varied much. The truck is 8 months old and has 7,800 miles. Overall average has been 10.0 MPG. Towing a 10,000 lb fiver I've averaged 9.1 MPG and empty I've been getting 10.4 MPG.
Running empty, I managed to get just over 12 MPG running from Solvang to Hearst Castle and back.
As an aside, I weathered the San Diego fires OK, was evacuated for a time, but I'm home now safe and sound.
