I like the sound of those Nathan P3s a lot. I didn't too much of this mod at first glance, but I heard those Nathans and was thinking, where is the darn train.
ok im in the process of installing my horns and compressor and ive got a couple questions first how do you mount those solenoids ive got three of them to mount and it wouldve been nice if they have a bracket or clip or somthing and second where did you mount the air intake for the compressors its gotta be where it wont get water in it and stuff... im gonna post some pictures when im through does anyone know if the horns will get you a ticket for noise?
I think the horns will get you a ticket,if you are unreasonable with it.
I just mount my tank and compressor,i mounted mine under the passenger side fender in the rear.I have yet to mount my horns, dont have them yet.
Depending on the model you have, they are a sealed unit.So it doesnt matter if they get wet.I will be putting a screen around mine at some point.

As far as the solenoids, my set up only had 1 and its mounted to the horns, I have 1 relay and I mounted it next to my battery on the wall. I ended up using the snorkle kit for my intake I routed the intake hose along the frame to the passenger front fender well and ran it up in between the fender liner and metal with the intake pointing downward. The snorkle maybe the reason why my unit takes alittle longer to fill but I know its not sucking in water. As far as a ticket, as long as your not being obnoxious with the horns you shouldn't get any noise pollution tickets.
YEA,go steal them off a locomotive...showed up for work and when I went to blow the horn all was silent....someone had removed the horns off my locomotive over the wk/end. It's parked in front of the terminal which is somewhat remote so it wasn't too difficult to remove un-noticed......

Just out of curiosity...does it cost the railroad as much as it does for us to buy them?
Bear Hunter- I called Nathan last year to see how much they cost for a set of K5LA's (the sound Amtrak originated, often copied by other roads) and I was quoted at about $2000!! Funny thing is, they will not sell horns to any old joe- you gotta be from a railroad or other business that requires such a warning device by law and or OSHA. Too many assclowns out there giving old ladies at bus stops coronaries I guess...
Air horns are definitely handy to have. I've had the pleasure of using mine a few times recently for a couple of cars that couldn't stay put in their lanes and one particular woman that decided to back out of her driveway and into the street where I was approaching while only looking in one direction.
Oh believe me, I have NO reservations in using my horn for the slightest infraction of the law where my beautiful truck may be at risk.
Ten bucks- that's not too bad of a deal, but you could get everything a bit cheaper on eaby if you piece it together yourself. I can give you a electrical and air diagram to get you going.
