I am going to do the on-board air compressor set up. I started off with an purchase of an 5 gallon stainless steel air tank. That is my starting point for the set up of the system. It has four 1/2 inch ports...two on either ends. I waited til I saw an better deal for an stainless steel tank so I would not need to worry about issues with rust. I have been keeping an eye on this thread for sometime and there are a lot of good suggestions.
I have yet to see someone who has an engine/belt driven air compressor set up for an gas superduty. Has someone done this? If so, I would appreiate some information on that set up. Most of these engine driven compressors are for diesel models.
Regardless...the air source is the only issue I got. I have lined up everything else with the system. I located an local hose company to get all the air lines from and several sources for rest of the fittings. I might just fabricate the York 210 compressor bracket and try to find an longer seperente belt from NAPA.

Oh...YEAH...I am going to install train horns in my truck...thats one of the primary reason for the on-board compressor. To get other idiots on the road to learn the meaning of RESPECT....I have been cut off one too many times and some of these folks seem to be unfazed with my factory horn....

Why do truckers mount air horns on roof tops? (1)To get more sound and range (2) Pretty safe from being picked off by obstacles (3) So folks can see the nice shiney horns.

Ok, take these thoughts and think about mounting your horns (1)under the hood or (2) underneath something.

Hiding them behind something starts taking away from the purpose of installing them in the first place....doesn't it?

Finally mounted my system, I like it, however the hammer 3's need to be a bit deeper in sound to mimik a train horn, but they still sound good. Managed to scare the hell out of my wife twice now walking in front of the truck and the first victum was walking down the Hwy and I was running down the road at about 70mph hit the horn bout 200 ft away from him and he spun around threw his hands up in the air! LMAO! I mounted the horns up in the right side bumper to the bumper side support bracket, had to trim bout an 1/4 of an inch off the splash well, you can see them if you look in the fender well. I will post pics of the install soon.

Thumbs up Kong I

I just, last week, installed a 180 psi system, 3-gallon tank and Kong Mk1 horns on my truck. It is pretty awesome. I got them off of Ebay (Seige Engineer). Don't believe the b.s. about a novice installing them in about 3 hours. They sent me the wrong fitting for the "1/2 inch hose" from the tank to the valve . So I found some fittings and a short air hose in my shop to get them going until the fitting came. It blasts so loud, I'm not sure I will change the hose out.

They sent, later, a "1/2 inch" compression fitting. I say "1/2 inch" because the hose is actually 1/2" od. It is some hard, black pvc type hose. The 1/2" compression fitting only has a 1/4" pipe thread to tap into the tank .That makes me wonder why bother with the other hose.

That my be too much information, sorry. The Kong horns sound like a train . They have a good balance of high and low tone. Those suckers are big, however. Don't get them if you don't have room.

You got the 3 hour thing right!!! Took me 6, but took my time and had to make a couple trips to the store. Lol wrong fittings, I got sent the right fittings but, was short one plug for the tank and manage to "F" the drain valve the first time I turned it, no biggie, they sent me 2 psi switches 180psi and 200psi, I'm using the 180 and they sent 2 relays. Thinking of adding air ride bags to the rear on my truck, wonder if there is enough air to pump'em. Where did you mount the Kong's?

I'll throw my 2 cents in- I've put air horns in my last two trucks, and if anyone wants a diagram of how i wired everything to work on the truck horn "button" send me an email and I'll shoot it to you. Never had any problems with my set up, except the wife doesn't like it too much hehe....

I mounted the Kongs right in front of the gas tank which puts the end of the bells right under my behind. It is a pretty snug fit between the gas tank and the fuel filter. Mine came with the 200 psi switch and 180 psi switch as well. I tested the horns with my shop compressor (maybe 100 psi) and I was scared to go with 200. I mounted the compressor on top of the frame right beside the factory horns (passenger side behind head light). I mounted it there in order to keep the noise in the area of the engine noise. You can still hear it running when you are at slow speeds or stopped. I am thinking of adding a shut off switch so as to turn it off in times like drive thru windows traffic lights and such.

I have had my horn operational for about a week and have found myself much more discrete than I thought I would be.
