My torque convertor gets commanded to lock manually at some point in the shift pattern by the SCT. I'd have to ask Matt exactly at what point it locks because of surging issues with the bigger turbo. On factory programming with my cruise set at 70 it would lock/unlock going down hill so it could coast and lock/unlock going uphill to pull. I believe it to be a fuel saving feature since having the torque convertor locked full time tends to make the tranny act as a brake going down hill. I'm not well versed enough in transmission/torque convertor operation to explain the exact function of each component, but basically that's what's going on. Maybe one of our good tech's can step in and simplify what I've cobbled up here--LOL.

The buzz flash is nothing to get excited about. I have had it since it came out and it helps with the cold start somewhat. If the new one is better, I will get it done. This flashing thing is pathetic. The original calibration that my '03 came with was by far the best for power/fuel mileage/tow haul that worked/ pilot injection quiet idle. I had it flashed because the romping on start up was unbearable. If they had done something like the buzz flash or inductive heating with the original calibration, that would have been awesome.

Never was a truer word spoken. I had a chance to drive one of those old flashes recently and MAN oh MAN they really would cook. When we first drove our '03 off the lot it just didn't quit. I later accused the sales guy of putting a programmer in it just to get us hooked (he was my neighbor and knew I was BSing).

I agree completly as well. although I havnt seemed to have lost any power so far, Any other 6.0 I drive seems gutless compared to mine, so im not sure exactly what is going on. I got this new flash because of the cold start "romp" and chugging as well, and from whats been said it sounds like it should prolong the life of the injectors. I cant see how this new flash coming out will prolong injector life, sounds like it will decrease it if anything, I guess we will see though.

After thinking about it, I don't see much difference in the spool valve solenoids being cycled for 30 seconds or current being pulsed through them at some interval. They will still heat up to some point. I don't know if anyone here knows or can tell how hot the solenoids get from "buzzing" vs. pulsing. I'm sure the spool valve must generate some degree of heat from the small amount of friction that is generated from it moving back and forth. I wonder how the new flash will "enforce" the pulse if it occurs on startup vs. buzz on shutdown. Will there be a mandatory timeout before you could crank the starter? Just wondering here.

I would have never done the flash, except the recall flash was required to re-register the truck in California. Meanwhile, I have been printing out all the Vloney/other techs advise on the situation and will take it all in on my next visit. I only wish I lived near Vloney or Canada...

I was hoping that mine would be back to normal after I reprogrammed with my SCT but it still does it. Did you have to send your SCT in to have it upgraded after the BUZZ flash? Mine wouldn't work any more so I had to send it back.

Above 2000 rpm (which ironically is about where 70+mph hits), it jumps into passing gear constantly. Filled up today...10 mpg combined city/hwy. Before flash, 15. For those of you with no post flash issues, count your blessings.
That is exactly what mine is doing, but I think it is the converter unlocking not downshifting. It drives me nuts. I wonder why they changed when the converter locks/unlocks?

You shouldn't have to send your SCT in. They can email you a new program and you can download it into your SCT from your computer. At any rate. Contact your programmer and ask them to lock the torque convertor. I am surprised they didn't ask you to read the strategy before you sent it in, unless they're sending you generic files. Let me know or contact LIPD and they can fix you right up.

They didn't ask me any questions. They just said send it back and they would update it. What do I need to download it from my computer? Is there a special cable or software? Also who do I need to talk to to get better files? I'm sure I got the generic ones. These don't work anywhere near as well as the original ones did.

Talk to Matt at LIPD--click the link in my signature. He'll tell you what the free software you need to download from SCT to be able to load your unit at home--only takes a USB cable. I guarantee you'll like his files--plus customer support is great.
