yeah mrxlh..Ive been running it the same since I bought it. I keep it plugged in.It idles app. 10 minutes when I fire it up then I drive it easy till it gets to opperating temps. Then I run 2000 tops rpm 10 miles to town. I might give myself a treat and get up and go on occasion to keep everything blown out. I've been getting 12.7-13 on every tank which I hope will get better with miles also when they did injector flash they did a flash for supposed pwer loss at high elevations. dont know if that could play factor on fuel??
I got my truck back last night. The dealer said my turbo was bad and replaced it. I haven't driven it hard yet so I don't know if it helped my power problem and tranny shifting problem. I'll let you know after I drive it a bit more.
It seems odd that the turbo was bad and I didn't notice. It did still make boost on the guage. I wonder what was bad about it? It did seem to make much more of a whining sound than this new one.
Also if you have been doing any extended idling that every hour idling uses .8 gallons. When I figure my mileage its 13-14mpg, when I deduct my idle time out its normally in the 15-16mpg range. Just some more food for thought.
glad you figured the idling in, we at the dealerships have to tell customers this constantly and they never believe a truck will use .7-.8 gallons/HR of idle time.. ford figures for police and ambulance thet every HR of idling time equals 27miles, which that is even a bit low. but that is the formula they tell us to use.
Well,I filled up this morning..11.98 MPG hand calculated..my prevoius lowest was 12.5..Its not as bad as I thought and i have to think that maybe i had some extended idle times and or maybe hit the throttle a little harder this tank..I did run it in 4x4 last week while fishing and busted a good drift,so that could have contributed as well..I still feel that I should be gettting better miliage on average..

I am still getting 14.8-15.5 w/ at least 10 minutes of idle time twice a day and only driving back roads 10 miles each way.. CC,8' w/ 3:73's,can't wait for my tunes to feel and see the fuel mileage difference.. w/ my SCT
Like I said ..I should be getting better miliage..Most here are getting 14-18 MPG..I hav'nt even touched that..I'm sure if I take a interstate trip @ 70MPH I would get at best 17..
I'm on my second tank of fuel since the flash. The first tank was, well, a little bit less than my average of 17mpg with my rural commute. But, the EGR valve issue was on the first half of that tank.
I'll get fuel on the way home from the office today. I don't have the console with fuel minder.. But, as I hit the road today, I expect the low level fuel light to come on. The run to the truck stop is about 6 miles. So... I'll have about 575 miles on ~33 gallons.
Appears to be ~17.5mpg on Winter Diesel. I can't blame the new flash for anything other than the buzz at shutdown.
My question remains... Is the buzz a good buzz? I mean, well, I've had buzz's, that well, weren't all that good. It depended upon what I had injested. I read some other posts saying that the coils in the injectors might be over worked now?
overworked coils huh...it will be interesting to hear what the techs have to say about that... Its just one thing after another and another and another.
Well, new buzz/flash.. 17.4mpg. Right where it should be.
I'll run this flash for a while. Even if Ford supercedes it with something else in the near future. In other words, I think the jury's still out.
I will say, I let my engine idle for sprints into the corner market. -Locked truck. Same as with at the truck stop or just picking up a friend at his house. I don't just shut down every time I stop. So, in my case I figure I let the injector cycle when shutting down, maybe less than many other PSD owners. -Funny, I was helping a friend's daughter move last weekend. He's got the same truck as mine. Absolutely no mods though. He drives it like a car. Fires it up to move it 5 feet. Shuts it down. Shuts it down right after coming off the highway. He doesn't have the new flash yet. I wonder if his engine will last as long as mine.
Has anyone noticed a change in the tranny after the "Buzz" flash? Something has changed in the way my tranny works while on cruise control going at a steady speed. Before while cruising at 70 the engine RPM and Speed would stay constant while going up a hill. The only thing that changed was that boost increased. Now the RPM will go up slowly about 500 rpm as the boost goes up. It sounds like the converter is not locked up. Any ideas?
99fordguy. It could be because of the reflash and the tranny relearning. It might take a few cold restarts. There is also a tranny relearn procedure that you can perform in the tech folder. Sometimes the torque convertor will do the lock/unlock thing on cruise at that speed. Mine used to do it constantly until I had it reprogrammed with the SCT.

Mine has done the same since the recall flash. At 70mph and up just a slight pressure on the peddle and it is jumping into passing gear, but comes back out just as quickly. Below 70, I can almost floor it before the passing gear kicks in, with the turbo doing most of the work and rmps staying below 2000. Above 2000 rpm (which ironically is about where 70+mph hits), it jumps into passing gear constantly. Filled up today...10 mpg combined city/hwy. Before flash, 15. For those of you with no post flash issues, count your blessings.
Npc..so, if the SCT fixed the problem of the torque convertor (and U are probably right on use being confused), then it could be related to flash and or factory settings?
Well I just had the (buzz) flash done today, truck runs the exact same as it did yesterday, except for the buzzing on shutdown, which doenst bother me at all. Dont know about gas mileage yet. I also found out my truck had a previous flash on it, I thought I was still running the stock flash, but they must have reflashed it a while back when I got an EGR changed. I had to pay 45 dollars to have this new flash done, definatly worth it im sure. Im just glad I got this injector buzz before its gone, I dont like the sounds of this new one.
