hi every body. hope the new year is treating you all very well. i have a ?? for idi mech. i want to back down my ip rail pressure but can not find the right post on it. i konw it is in there but can't find it so could some one out there tell me step by step how to do it? my 1985 f350 2-4 cc puts out lots of white smoke when i mash the thortel down ont hard but easy on up LOT's OF IT.cleand cdr check air filter fuel filter replaced return lines and caps reset timing. done every thing i can think of but detune ip.
http://members.shaw.ca/k2pilot/Injec...%20article.htm is an article on turning up the IP, should work the same for down. White smoke is a symtom of unburned fuel, usually timing retarded to far, or more likely injectors are spraying, ie not poping any more. Mine always smoked until I put in a set of rebuilt injectors. Good Luck
When my pump timing was set at 2 degrees after TDC - 10 degrees too slow (~8 degrees BTDC is the correct setting), it did just about what you're describing. Step on it and it would smoke. Steady throttle and it would stop smoking. Letting off the throttle produced another big puff of smoke.
Reset the timing to 8 degrees BTDC and the smoking problem cleared up pretty much instantly. That is the first thing I'd check....
KJLYPW thanks for the info. on pump tuning.
Dave S.the engine temp is 190 deg. on a man. guage out side temp 10-50 deg.

thanks agine all for the help
losescrew1968- turing down the IP could be the solution- you will have to forgive us IDI guy's- most of this forum is about helping others out with our own experiances! 6.9 and 7.3 engines use different pump #'s and injectors depending on the year- different flow rates and injector codes had different "pop" pressures, turbo or not. Were your pump and injectors (old engine) the same model and part dash numbers as was on your current engine?? Give us some more details so we can all learn from your situation??
KJLYPW i don't know the # of the pump that was on this engine it was gone when i got the engine. the engine #'s i will have to get and post them. i think they are located by the oil cooler some place will have a look to day iffen the old BACK will let me!!!
thanks agian for all the help. may be some day i will get this old girl up to my parr ha ha.
