Diesel....Pshhhh!

11385 trailer weight, 1980 pinbox weight = 13365 pounds behind a bone stock 2002 F-250 with the 5.4L 4R100 and 3.73 gears.

I wasn't winning any races, but I wasn't worried either.

I love my truck!

Oh yeah my tow rating from ford is 7100. Oops!

That is sooo past the safety range... I can see pulling over what it is rated a little but thats just insane!!! PSD or not, I wouldnt pull like that over any kind of passes!

A truck driver I hate to see this you need to get a bigger truck, I tow a fifth wheel camper also my have no problems with my 33 foot toy hauler. Another option buy a tri axle camper

I thought the pin weight was just how much weight was in your bed, so you don't add it. Also, most trucks have a different rating for towing a 5th wheel, doesn't yours? I'd be surprised if 11000 is way over. Besides considering a different truck, you might also want to consider air bags with that much pin weight.

Nevermind, with the 3.73 you are way off by at least 2000 lbs even with a newer model. I'd trade the truck if you want to keep the camper.

That looks dangerous. Maybe invest in air brakes?

That's the thing he's pointing out, it's NOT a PSD. Check his sig, it's a 5.4!!

Dude, I don't know, but it doesn't look like anything I want to be behind the wheel of. Just because you can hook it together and pull it, doesn't mean you should. You'd make good time wherever you were going cuz I'd get the heck out of your way!!!

About the only thing I would do is put some air bags in the back to level the truck, she looks a little nose high. Brakes should not be a problem, same brakes as an F-350 SRW truck, rated to tow heavier loads.

I always thought to get the trailer gross weight you added the axle weight and the pin (or tongue) weight. Is that not correct?

Comming from a F350 dually and towing big rigs, stopping IS an issue. Even with the trailer brakes locked, that much weight pushing the truck would be a problem. NOT to mention if the trailer brakes would fail, and you would need to stop in a hurry.

But then again, that's just my $.02. I'll stick to my F550 for towing, thank you.

Pin weight is added to the truck weight to figure GVWR(Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). It's usually used to determine if the GVWR is exceeded or not and from what I've found, this morning, is a recommended weight of 15-18% of the 5th wheel weight. It's equivalent to tongue weight of a conventional trailer, in other words.

Trailer weight plus truck weight plus any gear shouldn't exceed the GCWR(Gross Combination Weight Rating).

Jspafford is probably below his GVWR, but certainly way over the GCWR.

Thumbs down

That is so stupid of you you can tell by just looking at it that truck is over loaded. That is way too much stress on that truck. I own an Rv service and transporting buisness and have a F350 psd and i would never do what you have done.

Alright....call ME stupid......I thought the gasser 250s and 350s nad 4.10 or 4.30 gears in 'em........thought only the diesels had the 3.73s.

That's a shortbed?.....I guess they CAN pull a 5th-wheel.......I've heard the long-bed recommended for this.

Any other misconceptions you "gurus" can point out to me?....(haha)

Good luck to the original poster....That DOES look like a bit much for the truck....

I learn something new every day

To my knowledge, 3.73's are available no matter which engine choice you make. Plenty of V10 guys complain that they have no power, only to realize they have 3.73's.
