Diesel....Pshhhh!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
<----- has anyone ever noticed how many threads turn into gas vs. diesel debates? Krewat I think the usefulness of this thread is done, shut er' down! It's an argument that will never be settled because we all think we're right and we're all proud of our trucks. The truth of the matter is there are positives to both sides of the topic... just as there are negatives. Whatever a man chooses is his decision and only he knows what suits his life. However, it doesn't mean anything about that man or his personality, or how many chicks like him, or how he's "making up for something", or anything like that. Resorting to that stuff (Yes, cmpd, I know you were joking... just using an example for many other things I've seen.) makes you like like a spoiled 12 y/o that's screaming.... "my toy is better than your toy." Eventually the diesel owner grows up and realizes that not everyone is going to think like him, or maybe he doesn't. It's all a matter of pride... and I don't fault people for being proud of what they themselves have earned. Just realize that we all have preferences, and a preference cannot be right or wrong. Please don't take offense to this guys, I know that several of you (just like myself) have to restrain from popping off when these sort of things start up.... Sometimes I think it'd be better to have a completely different URL for the FTE diesel guys, but what'd be the fun in that??
As for the MPG, I towed on the whole tank and got around 9mpg. Not too bad seeing as I NEVER get over 11 when empty. Yeah it was not the best thing for the truck but I never felt I was hurting it. I towed it about 5 miles and hit about 55 on one stretch of road. Never needed to put it on a freeway. I DO have the overload spring on the rear and it was definatly sitting on it. The toolbox may have been a problem if I tow it all the time, but this was just a one time thing for an rv show. I actually towed it down and back, but this was taken on the way back with it. So I towed it twice. This is the biggest thing I have ever towed. The brakes worked great, I have a prodigy controller. I got the best of the best since I too work at an RV dealer.
I was not trying to start a war, I was just impressed how well my high geared low torqued engine truck did. I was always under the impression gassers sucked! I do want a PSD, but now I am wondering if it would be worth it for me. Who needs $80 oil changes anyway!
Thanks for the interest guys!
I am waiting and holding out for a black, crew cab, 4x4 shortbed with an auto and either the 7.3 or one of the non POS 6.0L.
But until I can find a decent one with all those specs I am going to hang onto my gasser, which I have proven to myself, although slow when overloaded is one hell of a truck!

I've seen gas vs diesel threads just as lively as political arguments on Club FTE (Art can attest to this).
Relax brothers....They're just truck engines!

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I'm going to keep it civil... at first I got aggrivated at your post because you really know nothing about me. Then I figured I have nothing to prove to you... I bought a $35,000 truck when I was 19 on my own accord and with my own money. I'm proud of it, just like you are proud of your truck. I know that a diesel will out-torque a gasser any day, that's what they were made for. However, my truck has been ABUSED from day 1, and currently has 173,337 miles on it. My mechanic (family friend of over 20 years, extremely reputable guy in the Birmingham, AL area) said that my particular engine would easily run to 300k miles if I kept up routine maintenence. When I say abused, I mean towing 8-11k lbs. 4-5 times a month totaling around 2000 miles per month. My 10 burner dominates any load I've had and the Tekonsha Prodigy easily brakes the heaviest of loads I've had. I like my gas job for the same reasons you like your smoker, personal preference. We all also have different perceptions on the diesel sound... is it that the diesel sound is more "manly" because it's in semi-trucks and they are big chassis' with mostly male drivers? Maybe... Is it because it's louder, and makes more racket? Maybe that too... Yeah, I think diesels sound cool under load and the intake is whistling and whatnot, but after a while I get aggrivated with the knocking --- again, that's just me. I enjoy the sound of the old throaty 302's and 350's. Gas engines just work for me... just like diesel engines work for you. Both of them are capable and able... and you diesel guys exchange the "brotherhood" look just like us gasjob brethren do. It all boils down to personal preference. Thankfully, we live in America and all have the option to choose.

Ya gotta admit.....the "torque-envy" bit was pretty cute....(haha)
Peace, all......

And give Art credit for letting this thing go a little further.
