I drove a 6.0 empty....what a dog. I'm happy with my 5.4. However, if I was towing, that'd be a different story.
But empty....the 6.0 was not worth the money. I'll take the V10 or my V8 anyday. Some of you diesel guys need to open the garage door sooner when your engine is running.
no i did compare a 6.0 to mine and a 7.3...ive talked to many of people on here and in a quarter mile i believe mine will keep up with a stock 6.0...correct me if im wrong please...yeah ok you might have a little more acceleration then me but everyone on here says that the 7.3 is such a great motor but seriously that thing is a freakin pig...yeah it tows great as do all diesels but if i wanted speed i would have gotten a mustang...hook up some weight to mine and itll definatley be a pig but all im trying to prove is now everyone needs the extra torque...why spend the 4500 when i dont need it...the 7.3 is definatley a solid towing machine but my sisters boyfriend has a 7.3 and he is getting 14 mpg and like i said i burnt him in my gutleess pig...as for the 6.0...ill line up with a 6.0 f250 supercab 3.73 and i probably wont burn him but i think i would keep up fine...but im no genius at this topic som some please chime in and tell me if im wrong.
o yeah if i took that 4500 i saved and got a supercharger and some other exspensive mods...would i still be a pig...just a question, i really dont know anything about this stuff...
Kind of a moot point. The 6.0 with just a SCT is like 440hp and 680tq, it would cost more that $4900 to make those numbers (I added the $400 for the SCT).
cant you read buddy...i said i dont know much about this stuff...i wasnt joking!!! i make counter tops and im the first to admit thats about the only thing i know how to do...all i was trying to point out was the 5.4 i THINK will keep up fine with a 6.0 empty, and even if it is a little slower does it really justify buying a deisel when it wont ever be used, and if you guys still feel like argueing then i will be the bigger man here and say you know what your right my truck is a pig and cant get out of its own way and its a piece of ***** but i love it!! there now you can go to sleep since now you know you have a better truck then mine!!! good night sweety pie
The V10 is an adaquate powerplant for the Superduty, I just disagree with the 5.4. Not to say that it doesn't work, just that after driving one for 6months, day in and day out and then having a 6.0 to drive as well, there wasn't any comparison. I just think it is an underpowered platform. Than doesn't mean its a bad motor, just not as powerful. I think this is what you gas guys fail to realize, we are not saying that the motor is bad, just that it is underpowered. Something else you gas guys won't admit either is that you put a 4.30 gear in a PSD and then the comparison gets ugly. If they were as powerful and as awsome unloaded or what ever other comparison the gas guys use, the 5.4, V10, and the 6.0 would all come with the same gear ratio.
There is a reason that most diesels come with 3.73 or higher gears. IT's because the diesel engine operates in a much lower RPM range than the gasjob. If you put 4.30's or lower in a diesel, well... you better have about $5-10k saved up to repair your smoker. Gas engines dominate diesels in the RPM range and can withstand MUCH, MUCH higher RPM's than diesels can. This is why it's more suitable to do a gear swap in a gasser than in a diesel, did you ever wonder why Ford never offered gear selections in a diesel's options list?????????????????????????? Invalid argument.
Well, I know that you are smarter than me, since you are an engineer (I always wanted to drive a train) in training, but then if you are correct, why is it offered in the dually (4.10) and towboss (4.30)? It is however not an option in the F250. So now I guess your going to tell me that the 6.0 in the 1 ton has a different powerband installed to utilize the different gearing?
i just dont get it mrxlh...what exactley do you do for a living...do you design fords gas motors?...lets see the 5.4 and 6.8 has been around since the 7.3, 6.0 and now the 6.4...it abviously works for alot of people...your right it is such a underpowered motor they should have taken it out of the f250 along time ago...maybe some people dont need the power but they would rather have the reliability...and from my expierience the triton engines are solid...yeah the 5.4 may lack the power needed to compete but this is coming from diesel owners...many 5.4 owners say there rig does just fine...yeah alot of 5.4 owners say there truck lacks the power but alot more claim it does just fine...o well its pointless its not like we are going to get anywhere
No I don't design anything for anyone, the 3 best gas motors Ford ever built were retired 460, 351w, and the 300-I6. I would take any one of these in a F250 over the 5.4 and 6.8 any day of the week.
like i said before i dont know anything about this crap but what are the hp and torque number on those 3 engines and where all of them available in the 3/4 ton
